Thread: One aspect to 'fix' Architect profession

The one thing that the architect profession needs to become stable and have a renewable source of income is a separate decay statistic for all items we craft. Tailers will have this for all their clothes (once the patch goes through testing), so why can't architects?

The decay resistanceof a crafted item would determine how long it lasts, and even low-quality items would last a while. This number would be displayed when examining, just as you can see the condition of weapons or armor. This would be the overall condition of the item. Maintenance is a different aspect of keeping a house or harvestor functional, and should be kept separate from condition and item decay. True, if an installation isn't maintained, it will still fall apart--but maintenance cannot keep the condition pristine forever. Right now it does.

With each architect-crafted item having a decay statistic, the whole Construction discipline would then have a use. Currently it has no effect and is a waste of time and experience on the way to Master Architect. As long as experimentation works correctly with architect items (only decay resistance is needed--the others don't work anyway), that aspect of the profession would be fixed.

Architects will be a valuable profession in the Star Wars Galaxies community if this simple change were implemented. More complex and exciting changes would be great, but quite unrealistic at this time. Being able to experiment to make super long-lasting structures or furniture will add the depth to Architects just like the other artisan professions. Master Architects would be valuable for something besides PA Halls and the upcoming Urban Planner elite-elite profession.

What do others think? Is this a realistic change? Would non-architects balk at the time decay? Please voice your opinion!

I'm not an architect, and I would certainly have no problem with this - it only seems fair, considering what the other professions have. Not to mention the little amount that people are willing to pay for buildings. One other thing I've thought about was.. what ifa certain percentage of the maintenance went to whoever made the deed? Not necessarily a large percentage - maybe 15% or so. I don't know, there are a lot of problems inherent with this idea though.

Just something I've been mulling over for awhile.

I don't think a commission for architects would fly too well, mostly because no other professions have anything like it and so we would be better off than others. There have been ideas of requiring architects to do the repair to buildings, which would be needed over and over again over time, but I think even that is too much hassle and complexity. Just simply putting "Condition: 1000/1000" with the information when examining an architect-crafted item would solve a big problem. And of course it has to degrade slowly over time.
