Thread: Let the pricing wars begin, SOMEBODY IS UNDERCUTTING ME now!
HI, Im Troy McClure, you might remember me from such threads as, "architects are greedy", and "Im a noob but I still know what im talking about."
Screw it, im not getting into a pricing war. Theres a dude on my server selling stuff at 2 credits per unit, and to top it off, he sits in my town, and MACRO SHOUTS 24/7 every 15 seconds. Its so badyou cant hold a conversation in town.
But I aint gonna whine and complain and think its the end of the world, Initially I only wanted architect skill so I can build my own house, my own factories, and my own heavy harvesters. And then grind weaponsmith/armorsmith/tailor.
however, I feel all your pain. Several things need to change with this profession:
1) Structures need to slowly decay (maybe make them require more and more maintenence fees over time). Because there is only a finite number of customers after all, and once you sell yourstructures to them, nobody left to sell to.
2) Architects need to be able to build defensive structures like turrets, and fotresses. Now wouldnt that be more cool then a PA hall? Well #2 has nothing to do with the surviveability of Architect class, but it would still be cool for a pure-artisan with no combat capabilities to be able to defend his own Mining Installations and house. Its kind of cheap to see a bunch of wild animals spawning in the middle of a town with 10 factories and 30 houses as far as the eye can see.
waaaaaaa waaaaa I cant make my 500% pofit margin.....
( chuckle )
Business is combat, almost exactly like all other combat. There is no set price for a resrouce, it changes depending on the effenciy % of resourceand type of your power generator, and the location of your extractors.

And that's the huge dillema facing our profession for those of us who actually WANTED this profession. People like you who only want the profession to make every last piece of equipment you want or need, and then exit and go about profiteering on others in your weaponsmith/armorsmith profession. The sense of interdependancy no longer exists in your world.
There are so many people doing exactly what you are describing in this one statement that it makes me sick. Okay devs, go ahead and make decay come now. I'm all for it. Let it decay at a rate of 25% per week and force banks to hold only 10 items. This will give us our fix.

I agree that hoses should decay. But if they do, get ready for the prices do drop swiftly, we will really be in competition then.
On the contrary prices would increase because experimentation would now be an added ingredient. Only the architects who cared about making a quality item would profit in the long run. Hey that would be me!
Structure decay isn't going to help archs one bit. If you think it's bad when people take up arch only to make their own structures then abandon it to go some other profession, if structures decay then even more people will start doing that.
And I fail to see how prices will rise if structure decay is implemented. First, there's no guarantee that structure experimentation would be implemented to reduce decay and second, even if it were a house that will burn down in a month (or even 2 months)is stillworth much less than a house that won't ever burn down.
Simply put, if structure decay is implemented all the master WS and AS will take up enough arch skills to build their own harvestors and factories and everyone else who used to buy houses as prestige items or for storage will stop buying houses altogether. Why spend 150K on a large house every month (not to mention the hassle of having to move everything into a new house)?
Structure experimentation would be great, but only if it is implemented so that archs can make differentiated structures that give people a good reason to upgrade or buy new equipment. For example, harvestors that are more efficient, use less power, have larger hoppers, or houses that can hold more items, etc.

Nay I meant you have to tie the two in together. You need to add decay and then provide some needed benefits to having a house. If you reduce bank items to 10 and increase house items to say 150 x lot then you will have people paying for the high quality large house. Trust me on the simple benefit of storage.
This would basically nerf everyone else in the game to force them to buy a house just so architects can make a buck. And then add decay on top of that? So that people would have to move 300 items (150 items x 2 lots for a small house) every month? You are aware that the most a person can hold at a time is 60 items, plus 50 more if they have a backpack, right? If their small house is even 1/2 full where would they put the excess stuff while they moved from their old house that just burnt down (thanks to decay) to the new one they just had to buy? Under this plan they wouldn't be able to put the excess stuff in the deposit box, because it would only hold 10 items. Maybe they would have to buy 20 droids so they could put 10 items in each droid, heh?
This wouldn't work at all. In fact, if SOE tried to implement this every non-arch in the game would start hunting down archs to lynch them for creating such a hassle. ![]()

I agree, except I dont think that would absoultly raise the prices of houses, It would make more people want them, But they will also shop around. Those of us that sell for a lot less ( while still making a profit ) will do quite well in that market.
It sruprises me when I sell a small house to an inital customer at the reduced price of $8000 and they tip me $1000. I like that, they like that, everyone feels good.
The reason prices are so low for Structures, IMO, is too many Architects vying for very few sales. Every week we lower our prices in an attempt to entice the few remaining players that don't own a house and 8 harvesters to buy from us.
Fewer people would learn Architect just to dump it, if they knew they would have to relearn it when there structures decayed.
I have no shortage of customers... try again, maybe I am the problem ![]()
