It is a true pain to use a component for a schematic if doesn't require a particular serial ID. As far as I can tell, factories will only find a component if the schematic knows its serial ID. This is a real bummer for people that use similar components for items such as medium mineral harvesters. A Medium Mineral harvester only requires 3 similar structural modules so its best to not use identical structural modules when making the schematic in case you don't have a lot of the same ore lying around. However this means that you will have to take structural modules out of the crate when putting them into the ingrediant hopper. This really stinks. And before someone replies and says well make schematic with identical structural modules, there are many other schematics that require similar components. Such as crafting stations. Right now I have to take 9 components out of a crate in order to make one single crafting stations. Nine per crafting station. You can imagine how long it takes me compared to just being able to put crates in the ingrediant hopper. This needs to be fixed. Factories should be able to pull items out of crates regardless of whether the schematic has a serial number or not. If the component in the schematic has a serial number then the item should be found by serial number whether in crate or not. If the component in the schematic does not have a serial number then item should be found by type, whether in a crate or not. This was somehow overlooked when crates were allowed to be used in factory.

Worked for me last night. I made 16 walls in one run using a schematic that doesn't have a serial# for the structure blocks. Had two crates of blocks in there too. a 100 and a 60.
Thank god!

They fixed this a month or so ago I believe. Structural mods were the last item to get fixed and it has been weeks.

I haven't tried crafting stations so I don't know if those components will be pulled, but for making walls from structure modules you can make the schematic with *any* structure modules (mix of hand-made and factory crates work fine). Same thing goes for making harvesters from walls. I quite often have a bunch of loose hand-built walls from Novice Architects along with factory-built walls that I've made - I dump them all into the input hopper, put in the schematic for the harvester, and off it goes.

Are you guys saying that I can make a schematic with one type of struc mod and put in another kind, and itll still make walls?

It doesn't use ID#'s for the Structure Module Slot in a Wall schematic so yes.

Yes, it will, try it, works great. They do not even all have to be in crates, some can be hand made.

I just tested this with crafting stations and it is indeed pulling components without serial numbers from crates. LMAO this must have been a stealth fix in the player city patch cause I don't see anything in the patch notes about it at all. Oh man, I feel so low pulling things out of crates for the last month ![]()
