Thread: A Proposal for Archangel: Additional Lots Skill Mod
So we all know lots are a big problem! Between factories, houses, and harvesters, we always end up having to switch factories, or other crazy things...
Well Here's a proposal i think some of you might like, some of you might hate it, fine by me...
This proposal would be to have a skill mod, spread out on the entire Architect tree, to get additional lots. I don't know exactly where i would put them but it would either be a total of +5 or +10 overall lots in addition to your already existing lots.
Now i can already hear the other crafting professions yell for a nerf, so my proposal would also have to include all other crafting professions so that they too can benefit from additional lots. Tailors, Chefs, DEs, WSs, ASs would all get +5 or +10 additional lots spread out in the entire tree.
Crafters need additional room to place down their harvesters. The fighters don't NEED more lots, i'm sorry, they might want more storage, sure, but they can either buy more houses or delete some junk, they don't *need* more lots. But Architects are gated, as are other professions, by the final lot number we can get. a structure factory and a small house already take up 4 lots! That's almost HALF the lots!
Would you guys be willing to ask for this?
I agree with your proposal, although I don't think that the other crafting professions need that many extra lots. What I do not like is that there is no way I can place a large house, which would be a symbol of my stature as a successful architect, and still have enough capacity to mine significant resources.
No other crafting professions require the amount of resources we do, I would propose that instead architects would get 1-5 non harvesting structures to place as they fill out the tree. So you could plop down a couple of houses, a structure factory, and a equipment factory.
Yes BUT for the sake of fairness, others should get as many. It's not how it should be but it just it, otherwise you'll start seeing architect dabblers just for the lots.
I also forgot to add that there would be a lot cap, you can never get more than 15 lots or 20 lots. These mods wouldn't stack, so that you cannot get master WS, architect and say AS and get 25/40 lots...
I actually disagree with this. I don't think we need more lots as Architects.
As a master, I certainly don't need more lots to harvest enough to get by. 5 10-rate mediums on steel/ore/metal/gemstone, and 2 10-rate mediums on gas/polymer is plenty good.
Iconstantly see up-and-comers and hologrinderslooking for ore and gemstone now, so they can just powergrind statues to get master (it's not that hard now....it's nearly as easy as it was for those who took advantage of full factory xp early on).
I'd much rather see the ability to customize furniture added, the ability to move things vertically inside your house, a reduction in the lot-size to 1 for the structure factory, anda unique architecture for corellia that includes basements or upper levels/split levels for corellian houses.
The only thing "more lots" would do is lessen interdependency between crafters and miners, and it would "speed up" the rate at which you can mine and grind through resources...Am I the only one that thinks Architect crafting is unbalanced in the direction of it being too easy to hit master and too easy to get resources as it is?
Seriously, what is it that people think is an "acceptable" amount of resources minable in a single day that would also be enough to stop the whining?
7 rate-10 mediums alone on an average of 50% concentrations will net you 50400 units of resources a day. That's a lot...considering that on my server the average price of any resource is 2.5 cpu, that's at least 126000 cr worth of resources a day you could mine...Even having to layout cash for power and maintenance, it's super easy to turn a profit or run a few missions and make your maintenance costs.
Well I think the main problem i'm trying to outline here is not that 10 lots is too little, if you needed no lots for factories or a house, 10 lots would be fine! The real problem is that, as an architect, you're stuck having a small house. You CAN'T display your own work! It's crazy! On top of that, our factory is the only one that requires 2 lots, instead of 1 for all the others! And we're the ONE profession that has to mine resources with low concentrations and in great quantities for ONE product.
So if an additional lots skill mod is too un-balancing, then what about what has been suggested:
Lower structure factory down to 1 lot, it's unjust that it is 2 lots.
Allow our declared residence to take 0 lots at master. Houses are our Business! We should be able to display them without downright crippling our business.
I think it boils down to that really...
Instead of more lots. How about a "lot efficiency" skill. It would amount to the same thing. Basicly you get a reduction in the lot size of items as you progress. A 10% would make a 1 lot cost .9 lots.
The skill would represent the Archs ability to get more use out of space with the structures they create.
Another approach would be to make this an experimneted upon ability (miniturization). Then we could have these BER13 heavies or make them BER10's but make them use less lots. It would also give us some use to experiment upon houses (or any other lot using structure). Plus they would be sellable to others this way.
I'd also give the houses another reason to be experimented upon. Maybe have it reduce maint costs. This way it would be a trade off between lower cost or less lot space taken. Most combat classes would probably prefer the lower main cost since they don't really need their lots. While crafters would more likely want the lower lot space taken since they do need their lots.
This would add some diversity by allowing more custom orders. Personally I'd rather see it done as a miniturization experimental line then just more lots.
It seems that most arguments cite being unable to place a large house while still maintaining enough harvesters. Well, instead of adding more lots, how about something simpler...like reducing the 6-lot requirement for a large house and lower it to something more reasonable? Even 4 would be an improvement. Just an idea.
I just want to be able to plop down a large house to live in and still have enough lots to have a viable business without buying most of the materials. Its annoying to be able to build these great houses, that we can't afford to live in due to our need for mass materials.
