Thread: Dalyn Brand value ?
Hey Dalyn, just curious about your 'business' model. I've seen many many posts by you and agree with around 60-70% of what you say.
What I am curious about though is, given you must be one of the most popular and well known architects on your server, why you feel you have to sell for less than others ?
You seem to apply 0 value to your brand name ?
Quite the opposite to me... or is that really what your 'brand' is worth to your customer base ?
Just curious d00d ?
What... It can't be, Dalyn is the most popular and well-known Architect on his server? and he sells for less then others?
I'm not sure where you get your information, though I would have a hard time believing that you have even ask him what he charges. As I see what your prices are like, ya I checked out your link at the bottom, he wouldn't be the only who would be selling for less then you are. That’s rather large mark up you have, I know there are several who would be selling under your price, I charge 5%-40% less then you do on your items.
I don't know anything much about the server you or he are on, I'm not on it, but given the business model scenario that Dalyn always advocates, I was merely trying to ask him if he factors in any 'Brand' prices to his structures as companies like Coke or Pepsi would. Since he must be pretty well known and built up a good customer base.
For that matter do you ?
I am able to charge what I do (which at 4-4.5 days mining breakeven is hardly exorbatant) because, well because of many factors... previous hard work building up a loyal and happy customer base, lack of architects able to fill orders quickly, lack of customer friendly architects, lack of stocked vendors, pure huge demand and low current supply. Things like that.
I am neither the largest nor most popular architect on my server. I am not even the lowest price architect on my server. I am too small an operation to claim any of those things. What I am is very popular and well known to enough people to sell everything I make with about 18 harvestors running.
Brand value? what is the value in who makes what? Zero.
My value exists to my customers simply because I am a bit lower than the going rate. I am not about to raise prices becasue I am known as a low price guy. That is nuts.

Many of my customers would totally disagree with that statement. I have had a lot of emails go through my mail box along the lines of"Can you help me out with this order, all the other MA's are either too busy or too rude for me to ever want to do business with them." There's value in that statement.
As for the person saying walmart, well Dalyn has already stated he is neither the biggest nor most popular etc so Walmart business model is not the one he is using.
I'm not having a go at you or anything like that Dalyn, I just wanted to drum up a little intellectualconvo and relieve the bordom while waiting for the servers to come back up ! Get a clearer picture of where you see your value and the value of your business model. Pretty clear now, thankyou ![]()
I understand what you are saying, I have customers that also would buy from me no matter what I price at. But I got that name through being competitive. Not the lowest mind you, there is always someone selling for lower than I do. Look ath the 10BER thread, Im not the lowest by any means.
I just make sure I am lower than my customer expects. That tactic has made me a whole lot of lifetime customers.

The original question posed was:
"given you must be one of the most popular and well known architects on your server, why you feel you have to sell for less than others?"
Walmart is a popular business that sells for less.
I think the comparison holds even though Dayln isn't the biggest. Both are successful yet still sell for less. Look at Dell as another example, their prices are vary competitive. Just because a business is successful does not mean that they need to charge more. Often the fact that they charge less is a large part of the reason that they became successful.
Dayln has always said he charges a little below market value. I don't think he's ever said he's the cheapest and I don't think hes an undercutter.

The functionality of a medium house doesn't change for whoever made it. So nobody is going to go shopping for the Dayln brand houses "cause they're the best".
However Brand value definitely still does make a difference for our businesses.
Brand value = recognition and reputation.
It determines who people decide to shop with more than anything. If someone has heard that Dayln has good prices and is good to deal with then that means that your company has got Brand value. For us brand value has a lot to do with customer service and pricing.
Brand value might actually matter as far as the product is concerned when talking about high BER harvesters. Someone might actually go looking for a Dayln harvester if they know you only make 10's and 13's. Whereas other architects might make lower extraction rates.
And yes, I guess picking out companies that use their brand name to increase profits (nike, etc another example), made it a bit biased... there are always 2 sides to the coin and both have obviously successful business models.
VERY VERY true Pawlin!
That is why I sel a lot of things closer to everyone elses prices, and they still come to me becasue of my known name. I play both sides of the fence ![]()
From my perspective name is everything, which is why I wont raise my prices.
