It’s always bugged me that the harvester extraction rates don’t follow any apparent pattern. It’s been my experience that the Personal harvesters are capable of reaching a MAXIMUM Base Extraction Rate (hence know as BER) of 4, Mediums a BER of 10, Heavies a BER of 13, though I’ve heard of them going up to 14. This doesn’t make much sense to me. Personal harvesters, typically used by newbie artisans, some of us use them in the hard to reach areas as well as those that have no surveying skill to locate resources, so the max BER being low is not so much an issue. The thing that bothers me is the BER of the mediums and heavies. Due to the relatively high maintenance/power costs and low BER of the heavies compared to the medium harvesters, the heavies are just not economical to use on a resources concentration any lower than 85%. My being a Master Architect, this seriously hinders my ability to harvest such resources as Low-Grade Ore (I’ve seen no higher than 68% when surveying for LG-Ore) that I require extremely large amounts of to complete must constructions, without going broke in the process from paying maintenance and buying power. (Or even running my own Fusion Gen for that matter which also seems to be stuck at a BER of 14 now since they were ‘patched’) It seems to me that if they were to follow a simple pattern such as: Personal Harvesters/Wind Generator with a max BER of 5, Mediums Harvesters/ Solar Generator a max BER of 10, and the Heavy/ Fusion Generator a max BER of 15, the maintenance/power costs would balance themselves out and the heavies would actually be worth the expense. But that’s just my opinion.

If you have a BER 13 heavy on a 69% density then for an extra 750 credits and 600 power you get an extra 3k of resources. Thats roughly 0.5 cpu cost which is definitely economical. Plus you can mine more with the same amount of lots which matters more to a lot of peple than the efficiency or ROI.

Yeah, I've thought about this very thing as well, but I decided that I like the way it is. There's a trade-off. If you're looking for the most economical, use a medium. If you're looking to get the greatest number of resources possible, use the heavy, but just know it's going to cost a little bit more.

Lemme get this straight . . . you're looking for logic from SoE?

Harvesters as WAYbetter than it used to be when I first started out.
When harvesters fist came out, the Max BER was much less...
It used to be Personal = MaxBER 2, Medium = MaxBER 4, Heavy =Max BER 7.
Along the way, SOE decided to upgrade the default BER to 4, 7, and 10. (Architects still could not experiment at the time)
Now, architects can experiment andadd +3to theBER,enabling them to makethem as high as 7, 10, and 13 by using better resources.
I still think the default BER for non-experimented harvesters are 4,7, and 10 (Someone correct me if I'm wrong here. I haven't made one without experimenting in a LONG time).
So the BER only looks strange, but in reality, it's the experimentation that's throwing you off.
There is a set pattern for the default BER (4:7:10) and it is very close to the 5:10:15 ratio you are suggesting.
