I have crit fail a PA Hall.
Fails are part of the game. The hall is a complexity 45 item. It's supposed to be hard, the hardest thing there is to make in the architect profession.
That is the cost of being an architect. You will fail sometimes. Get used to it, plan for it, and you'll be okay in the long run.
Here's a rule: Don't attempt to build a PA hall unless you can handle the failure. Would you invest all your money on one stock based on a tip? Didn't think so.
Yes, don't build it if you can't handle a possible loss.
And yes, i've failed on big projects. But you know what? I had enough creds and resources saved up to cover myself.
Meep meep .. ok well another crit failure on a guild hall .. this is my 2nd failure out of 4 combines, this is just silly ..
After my last failure lots of people chimed in with "helpful" advice, the first failure i had 60% crafting tool and station, i replaced both of them with 90% ones (took me like 50 combines and experiments to make). I logged out for 20 mins and back in to refresh all my tools before the first combine. I never backed out of anything dumped the components in and hit combine. I also did this during low population time. And still poof critical failure. I also am a Mon Cal.
I really am interested to hear how this system is remotely fair ? I'm not even worried about the lost materials, bottom line a crit fail on a pa hall means a tremendous amount of lost _time_ for absolutely no gain. It would be like dying and loosing all of your stuff (no insurance or corpse to get it from).
What failure rate would be acceptable? If it were 1:20? 1:40? I think they would be *more* than acceptable, especially for a complexity 45 item as someone pointed out, but there will still be that one squid who get's their 2:80 failures in the beginning of their run. (good news, you might have 70+ good combines in the queue for ya)
My advice for you is never to bet on landspeeders. Some people are lucky, and some are not. If you've got a rate that bad on those halls, first thing to do is check your stars.

Folks, lets take a step back here. Two things need to be present for you to succeed in high complexity items. The first is using high quality crafting stations and structure tools.
The second is high quality COMPONENTS. For you people who have failed: Did you make one structure module, EXPERIMENT on it till it was 50% Plus and THEN use it to make 160 high quality structure modules? After that, did you take 10 of your structure modules, high quality ore/metal and EXPERIMENT on it till it was over 50% and then use it to make 15 high quality wall modules?
Then, when standing in front of your high quality crafting station, using your high quality structure tool, did you try the final combine using your high quality components?
I do, and I've never failed on anything higher then a component.Last night, i tried hand-combining wall modules and failed 3 out of 8 times. I slapped myself on the forehead, took the rest of my structure modules, dumped them into my factory and cranked out 10 perfect wall modules.
I hearlots of peoplecomplain about how experimentation does nothing and how critical failure rates are too high yet I RARELY hear someone who uses the above techniques complaining, primarily because they are too busy cranking out PA halls at 500k a pop.
Experimentation works. Use it and succeed.
