Thread: Everything you ever wanted to know about Structural Factories.
Q: Why do I need a Factory?
A: To build any of the high level structures, you need to have components from Factory crates.
Q: Ok, so how do I use a Factory? I need a schematic, right?
A: Once your Factory is built, you will need to assemble a schematic for the component you want to build, as well as supplying the maintainence and power requirements for the factory. Go up to a crafting station, use your Structure crafting tool, assemble the item you want a schematic for, and at the end, select to "create a manufacturing schematic". You will now have that schematic in your datapad for use in your factory.
Q: Is the limit on schematic uses really 100?
A: No, that is an incorrect limit. The slider when making a schematic only goes to 100, but you can manually enter a larger number (I usually do 1000) where the number is displayed.
Q: Do the resources needed to make the schematic still get used?
A: Yes. You passed the assembly, so you have used the resources required.
Q: Really? So when I make a Wall schematic, I lose 10 Structural modules and everything?
A: Yes, really.
Q: When I make a schematic that requires other components (like a wall requires 10 structural modules), do I have to use the same serial numbered components in the factory?
A: This is a little tricky. When I made my first wall schematic, I used different serial numbered modules. as a result, I seem to be able to use any modules. If you use all the same serial number, or if a schematic you are making requires only one of a component (such as a Manufacturing Mechanism requiring 1 Generator Turbine), then you MUST USE THE SAME SERIAL NUMBERED COMPONENTS in your factory, so try to use components in the schematic that you make in your factory.
Q: Do I get any XP for building a schematic?
A: No.
Q: How do I use my schematic?
A: You can only use your schematic in the appropriate Factory (in our case, Structural factories). You cannot make weapons in a Structural Factory just as you cannot make Walls in an Equipment Factory. To use the schematic, you go to your factory, and in the radial menu, and select the schematic you wish to use. Next, acess the ingredient hopper from the radial menu. If you don't remember what ingredients are needed, also bring up the "list ingredients needed for schematic" option from the radial menu. YOU MUST USE THE EXACT SAME RESOURCES IN YOUR FACTORY AS YOU USED WHEN MAKING YOUR SCHEMATIC! If you used Arahris Copper in the schematic, you must use Arahris Copper in the factory. The factory will produce as many components as it can, up to the number limited in the schematic, or up to the number it can produce with the resource you placed in the hopper, which ever comes first.
Q: Do I get XP for items created in my factory?
A: Yes, you get full XP for items created in your factory, with a couple conditions. You must be within a certain range of your factory (I do not know the exact numbers), and you must remain logged on. I lost close to 60k XP due to not being logged on while my factory was producing, so learn from my mistake, and stay logged on close to your factory while it is producing.
Q: Do I get any XP if I am using someone else's factory?
A: No, only the owner of the Factory will gain XP from that Factory.
Q: What if the server goes down, will my factory stop producing?
A: This happened to me once. I had just begun manufacturing 50 Structural Modules and the server went down. When I was able to log back on, My factory had completed the 50 modules, but I only received the XP for about 4 of them (which completed before the server went down). So, no, as of now, you do not get XP if the server goes down.
Q: What are the Maintainence and Power consumption rates?
A: The Maintainence rate is 25, and Power is 50.
Q: How many lots does a Structure Factory Take?
A: 2
Q: Do the Maintainence and Power get used when the factory is not manufacturing?
A: The Maintainence gets used, but the Power does not.
Q: Can I really have a Critical Failure on a Factory?
A: You can Critically Fail on anything.
I think that hit all the questions I've seen so far. If you have any more, just ask!
Also, Most of this holds true for the other types of factories. A few differences are that other factories only take 1 lot, and, naturally, you can only build things in the specific factories that they are designed to build.

Back in Beta, I made a crafting station with the optional components (2 micro sensor suites and 2 control units needing Master Artisan skill, and 5 Droid Storage Compartments needing Novice Droid Engineering skill). I then had access to an Input Hopper for the crafting station. This option appeared in my tool kit, on the screen where you put the resources into the schematic slot. It allowed me to low items into the crafting station hopper, where I could use them to craft or leave them in there as storage.
However, I never thought this function was very useful. And sometime after that, the Input Hopper function disappeared. I think this was around the time the Devs removed all items from Input Hoppers and travel packs because of a database corruption. I haven't made a crafting station with the optional components yet in the live version.
But to the best of my knowledge, the optional components don't do anything for you now. But if you make one with the components, use a specialized tool kit near the station to see if you have an Input Hopper option.
Also, a couple extras:
Q: Can I use the factory crates in the Ingredient Hopper?
A: No, You must take the items out of the crate for them to work.
Q: How do I give someone a schematic?
A: You must have that person put it in a factory they can use, then you must take it out of the same factory. You cannot trade schematics at this point.
I thought you had to be within a certain radius as well. However, that radius extends at least a few hundred meters (which seems odd). I went to my friends house while my factory was running, and I was still getting xp. I guesstimate I was probably 500-700 meters away.
To remove a schematic, you choose options > access schematic slot. From there you can remove the existing schematic or add one. The one currently in the factory is listed at the top of the box, and the available schematics are listed below there.

Good stuff.
Just want to say you can trade schematics if you really want to...just use a mutual vendor. You can upload a schematic onto your vendor and the other person can "buy" it off of it.
But yes, giving administrator rights and having the person load th schematic himself is probably easier. ![]()
Here's a question...
I have a schematic for 10 power core units, and load it into the factory along with all the ingredients it needs, lots of power, lots of money in it. Turn it on.
It makes 1 unit, get the email, it stops producing.
So, then I turn it on again (making sure it has all the ingreds) and after a tick i get the message that it's finished but creates 0 items but has used my resources in the ingredient hopper!
I do this a few times, and now i'm ready to pull out my hair!!!! I have no idea why it is doing this, does anybody else?
