Thread: Which came first the factory or the similar module?

Ok so let me see if I've got this right...

It takes 3 similar Wall Modules to make a factory... it takes a factory to make similar Wall Modules...

So how'd the first factory get made if there was no one around to let them use a factory to make the similar wall modules in order to make their factory so they could make the wall modules that go into making their factory?

Confused yet?

Basically if I'm reading this right, any time a schematic calls for a 'similar' item it needs an item made in a factory that has identical serial numbers, is that correct? If not what does the draft schematic mean by 'similar'?

If I am reading it correct then that would mean in order to create the first factory you can create as an Artisan, which is the item and equipment factory I beleive, you need to have an already exisiting factory available in order to produce the 'similar' items required in construction. So my question therefor becomes, how did the first Artisan create that factory?

Don't think that is the case since I made the equipment factory last night. I think having the structure factory will ease the burden of making 10 structure modules per wall module, but you can do it without a factory. Probably took 30 minutes of real time to put all the things needed together.

SIMILAR wall moduels mean that the items must be of the exact same resources but can be crafted by hand.

IDENTICAL wall moduels means that the item must be crafted with resources identicle to the schematic and must be made in a factory.

Kinda like a small house needs 10 similar structure mods. These can be crafted one at a time by hand, as long as you make sure you have enough ore to craft all 10 of the same kind of ore.

Kk, I think I understand now. When the servers get back up I'll go on an ore run and see if I can get enough on hand to craft the walls. Thanks guys.

Similar components don't have to be made of the same resources. The word 'similar' basically has no meaning in this context.

As an aside, for a real catch-22, you can go back to Ye Olden Days of Beta, when you needed a personal crafting station to build any house. Think about that one.

So the resources DO NOT have to be the same? So if I make one module out of Eurona ore, I could make the other nine, or any combination of the others out of any other brand of ore that I happen to have on hand?

I did some mixing and matching of resources and didn't have a problem.

To answer myself here, I just tested it with four seperate types of ores and it would seem that YOU DO NOT have to use similar resources when making similar items for a deed or structure. I used four different ores, and two different steels in the making and they all combined just fine for my new house.

I confirmed that very early on in the game. "Similar" just means it has to be the same type of product. (e.g. "A Structural Module") no matter what you made it out of.

"Identical from a factory crate" means just what it says. They all need to have the same serial number, etc. and come from the same schematic's run through the factory.
