I took time to actually browse the stats on my Station and tools today, and notice that while my Tools are +10ish for effectiveness, my station is -12.

Am I to take it from this that -12 is better ??

A possibility that is made even odder by the fact that after succesfully experimenting on the effictivess of my tools while crafting them(I got an "amazing" success).. the effectiveness rating was increased from +6 to +10.

Anyone got any idea how the chance to Crit is actually worked out ?

Not sure how they are used in a formula but if you use all the components and experiment on them it will raise your crafting stations function rating.

+ is better. I JUST made new ones and they have a positive effectiveness rating.

You've just made a crafting station with + effectiveness or a crafting tool ?

Both my crafting stations and crafting tools have a positive rating. I have one items station up to 17 now my structure is about 9 I think and my tools are like 13 I think, I have to look at those again I know they were 7 and I made better ones and think they were almost double.

Well I have made 3 or 4 crafting stations with a +24.7 rating on them. What I don't get is that I used the exact same materials with the same optional components and when I made 2 more of them I got ratings of +11 and +16. Is it random or what?

By the way I was experimenting them up to 99% efficiency on all of them. Durability varied

my question is...WHAT DOES THIS DO?

would is better about using a +24 as opposed to a plus 10

my on experience before these changes where that the ratings really had no effect....using a crafting toool made with scarps gave me the same results as one i experimented on and used the best resources...a crafting station built with scraps gave the same results as one with all the optional components...

I've never seen two with identical components experimented to the same % come out with different efficiencies. I assume you were using the optional components to get that high, yes? Did you use exactly the same resources for each subcomponent and experiment every sub component to exactly the same level?

For example, you need two microsensor suites as one optional component slot. They not only require several resources, but each also takes an Electronics GP module, an Energy Distributor, and a Control Unit. Did you use the exact same resources on all three of them, and achieve the same percentage on experimentation through them? I played around a lot with these this last weekend, and if you stick in a sub-component that was of lower quality than the best you could get to make the microsensor suite, the finished station would have a lower efficiency rating even if you got the max benefit from your final combine experiments.

I wound up throwing away enough sub-components to make a grown man cry and eventually stopped making them.

If the factories weren't borked and I could just mass produce the optimal sub components, it would be worth it, but I'm not tearing down an equipment factory to redeed it every twenty minutes just for this junk.

I have been making crafting stations that are just shy of 40 points. Around 39.53 or somethng like that. The nicer stations seem to get less crit failures and also seem to get beter experimentation success. I don't have empirical evidence, but I have been tracking on several hundred combines. So my answer is yes I think it makes a difference, but if it doesn't I don't see any reason to not have one that is very very good.
