From dev responses:

Critical Failures – Critical Failures for Architects can be disastrous due to the amount of resources used in the creation of their items. This results in players feeling cheated and frustrated

This should be better as of the last patch. There might be some more changes in the future depending on how things go. Let us know how you like the changes and we’ll move from there.

Could that be why yesterday i failed on final assembly of a factory 2 times in a row (including about 5-10 random failures in the middle).

I had a customer sitting there waiting for it to finish, and i failed 2 times - I was going to try for a third, but low and behold, i had run out of metal... So went to check all my harvs to get enough to try again... oh, guess what? - Resources had shifted no more than 15 minutes after the last time i checked my harvs... ALL of my metal harvs had about 20 units in them.

Ok, there... i feel better...

/end rant

Seriously though, is there something i might be doing wrong? - It's the first time i've tried to make a factory... Both of my tools are high quality (i think +12 or something, i maxed out effectivness on experiement up to 99%), i was very careful to use all the same resources for the structure modules, and the wall modules, they were all pretty much identical... It sucked BAD to lose all that stuff AND lose the sale.

On a funny note, the customer had given me 1000 units of metal for the attempt on the second factory (since i didn't have enough) and when i failed the second time, he actually told me that i had to pay him 2500 credits for the 1000 units of metal he gave me.

I did /point ; /laugh at him... If anything, he should have to pay me 2500 for being nice enough to fail 2 times for him. - I should have just given up and taken my losses with the first one.

What does everyone else do when they crit fail something as large (or larger) than this? - Do you try again, or just tell the customer sorry?

/end rant again

Depends on the customer I guess. I have one now trying to get me to make a PA hall. I failed on the first one. Ok, I said, I'll help him with resources on the second. Boom. Failed again. Now he is asking his friends for resources for a third try. It's really bad for business on PA critical failures. Luckily, the customer is very understanding. I just hate the time I wasted. Basically, I say no charge after the first PA failure cause I know how hard it is to get the materials. But it leaves me in a hole to do work without any benefit.

I think it all matters on how you value your reputation.

It's not your fault that you failed, and its not his fault either. I would say that if you decide not to try again, that you should compensate him for the resources he gave you. Again, its niether persons fault that the resources are gone with nothing to show. The customer is always right. Follow that motto and you'll gain customer loyalty.

If I follow the idea of compensating customers with resources, dang how will I ever get ahead with the critical failures hiting me so hard. Probably it would be better if I just made PA's on my own and sold them first rather than accepting orders.

I see what your saying Nose. I was referring to the 2500 cr, since its really nothing compared to a bad rep. A PA hall is another story. We shouldn't have to be discussing this at all. The idea of crit fails might add flavor to crafting items that take 200 resources, but when talking about a PA hall its just plain sadistic.
