I am simply testing the whole factory process out. I created a schematic to create 1 wall. I put 10 structure modules in the resource hopper along with the other resources needed. I told the factory to produce the wall but so far on 2 occasions the factory has not produced the wall and has destroyed my wall schematic. Is this common. Thanks for your response.

Common as of right now, yes.
Supposed to happen? No.
Factories are very, very messed up right now.

Schematics are only good for the number of 'uses' you set them to. If you set them to '1', they will make (Or not make, in our current state of factory brokeness) 1 item, then dissapear. ALWAYS manually type in '1000' in the number field.. There's no reason not to. If you run out of materials later, you can always just destroy the schematic at no penalty to you
