Thread: Why No More Experimentation on Structural Modules?

The rate of harvesting of a medium mineral harvester used to depend on the quality of the three structural modules that were used to build it. No other component made any difference in the rate of harvesting, at least as far as Icould discover.

For example, in order to make a med. min. harvester with a 7 kg rate, I used to have tobuild it withstructural modulesthat hadno lower than a 60% quality (experimental efficiency). The worse the quality of structural module, the lower the harvest rate. So I would experiment five times (using the five skill points that we Master Architects were given at that time) in order to bring the percentage up to at least 60, so that I could make a manufacturing schematic.

Well, you can imagine my surprise when I discovered tonight that the game no longer allows meto improve the quality of structural modules.

Two questions: Is this a bug? And if not, which component is it that now improves the harvesting rate of a medium mineral harvester? The light ore mining unit?

From the patch notes:

Removed the 'experimental durability' property from structure components, because it didn't actually do anything.

Sorry, didnt see your second question...heres the rest of the section from the patch notes:

Experimentation ranges for the harvester 'extraction rate' property is now set up correctly.

There are two new components: Heavy Harvesting Mechanism and Turbo Fluidic Drilling Pump Unit, now used in heavy harvesters.

Harvester extraction components (like the Ore Mining Unit and Fluidic Drilling Pump Unit) now display how many points they contribute to a harvester's extraction rate. This is so these items can be more easily sold as individual pieces.

Removed the 'experimental durability' property from structure components, because it didn't actually do anything.

The 'experimental efficiency' property of structure components no longer just relies on the Unit Toughness of your crafting resources. Make sure you check what contributes to a good efficiency for harvesters.

Hehe.. that's so wrong .. the extraction rate only depended on the experimented efficency of the light ore mining units. Everything else only contributed to the storage size.. which I think struct mods probably had little to none to do with the equation.

It's about time they started taking out the experimentations that do nothing.
