Thread: Why Bother Making Large Harvesters?

I've been thinking about the cost effectiveness of the new large harvesters recently, and the question arose Why on earth would anyone but architects need or buy large harvesters, now that the extraction rate of medium harvesters is so high?

I mean, it is only we architects who need enormous amounts of resources in order to build various items. Take a look at the amount of resource units that the other professions need, and you'll see what I mean.

If I were a weaponsmith, armorsmith, tailor, or doctor and wanted to harvest my own resources, I would never buy a large harvester.

And even as a Master Architect / Master Artisan, I doubt that I will ever use a large harvester, except in an emergency. Medium 7kg, much less 10kg, harvestersreally supply enough resources for me to make a living on.

And sowe earn an extra million or two credits from having large harvesters. Who cares? I mean, it's not that there is anything much to spend credits on oncewe have everythingwe want.

But then, I guess there are players who like to have "ueber-everything." (grin)

What do the rest of you think?

The resource requirements for other professions may not be as high, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't use heavies. If an outstanding resource appears on the server, then they will want as much of it as possible.A little extra maintenance for a higher BER isn't much of a concern for an establishedweaponsmith.

Whatever man I have people lined up and willing to wait a week for fully experimented heavies....and none of them are architects( duhr). Why don't we start a constructive thread about something that doesn't work properly, or something really usefull and new.

here's a goodreason

for some players like myself, resource selling on the bazaar isthe easiest way tomake money. I play a BE and canonly log in for an hr a day or less. I got no combat skills and my professionsucks until the cloning patch.Only way I get by isbecause I have3 heavies set up powered by 2 fusion generators. Everything I harvest Isell on the bazaar and itpays formy grinding whenever I wanna try something new, structuremaintenance, etc. I'm actually looking for a deep crust chem harvestor right now but nobody ever sells them

so there ya go

I know I only use mediums now since my newly crafted heavies cost more than a Player Hall to run now for each one.

I have steel with all the requirements to make the very best harvester availiable.. I made myself 3 mediums to a 97% effiency and got a rate of 10 which is the best I used to be able to make heavies at before the city patch.. Only problem is now they are charged 40 credits extra an hour to run what it calls a high effiency harvester... ohhhhh that's just lovely.. My heavies I could only get to around 57% but I think it's because the walls were only around 60% since the ore I used for those was half as good as the final combine ore I use.. But I still got a rate of 12 but it costs them to run at 114 total credits per hour.. Also it's hardly worth it to get a heavy and pay that much more for it when they can get a medium which uses next to no resources for myself compared to the heavy and get just as good as the pre-patch heavies.. and 3 better than the old heavy rate.. While still getting a discount on power use that's unchanged I think...

I have yet to sell one of these new ones so I'm not sure what I would charge I used to charge 12k to 25k for the mediums.. and 125k for heavies before anything changed.. No idea about that now..

I mostly use ER 10 medium harvesters now, I've rebuilt most of my fleet as them. But plenty of people still want the higher ER heavies, I just sold 15 assorted ER 12's and ER 13's last night, with plenty of orders for today.

So, what's the maint fees on medium 10?

I'm only able to whip up 13 KGH heavies and 9 KGH mediums (using 92% OMUs). My 13 KGH heavies cost around 4.5k in maint fees daily, with a 9k redeed fee.

Did the patch notes mention anything about an increase in the redeed costs based on extraction rate? I just found this out when I pulled some heavies I had out and am not happy about it.

I believeitwas mentionned inthe patch notes, and I posted about it too.

The maintenance increase only applies to harvesters above ER 7, and it adds +8 perER over 7.

For some players the rate 13 harvesters are interesting.

The biggest miner on Valcyn manages 182 lots and I am guessing she would be happy to either :

- be able to reduce the number of lots she use by 30% and still retain the same extraction capability

- be able to increase her production by 30% without needing additional lots.

I do agree rate 13 heavies are not for everyone but there are players interested by them ( personally I am just going to get 10 rate 10 medium mineral that I will be using most of the time but I will get a few rate 13 chemical and flora just for that good resource that could pop up...)
