Thread: What is the important resource qualities for a house?
a friend offered to make me a small house if I gather the resources. He told me it is best if all 3k of low grade ore is the same, it would lower the price of maintenance or something.... anyway, I was gathering Tradegatoteb (sp) and was wondering what the quality numbers meant and which was the best.
Here is what the ore qualities are, is this any good? What can i expect for maintenance costs and such??
Cold - 825
Decay - 525
Heat - 783
Mallable - 729
Overall - 464
Shock - 549
Toughness - 790
The consensus is that the quality of the resources has no effect on the end product of structures, neither decay rate, maintenance rate, or any other factor.
There is still some debate as to whether the quality of resources can reduce the incident of critical failures, but there's no sold proof one way or the other.
Every small house I've ever made or checked had the same maintenance rate of about 400 credits per day, and I've never seen any difference in the medium or large houses either.
I've made a handful of basic houses from a very good copper in addition to decent ore and had negligibile criticals. But this morning I made two houses and clocked up roughly four times the number of criticals on the various parts after running out of copper andswitching toa different metal (steel). The overall quality seemed only slightly below but I did not compare the other stars.
Oh, and the last critical was on the final stage of construction of the second house - ouch!!
Might have just been bad luck or a sneaky overnight patch, but it made me pause for thought...
Skarra, Radiant
Unit Toughness is what most Architect items call for, so this low gradeore would be good for it...
Critical failures is about the only thing that is affected right now... You'll have fewer falilures and more amaziung successes during experimenting by using the highest quality materials...The maintenance costs and power requirements are currently all the same regardless of resources used, but that is supposed to change in a future update... So to make a good name for yourself - use the best materials and experiment the ratings up in anticipation of the coming update... The cheap builders will be seen once the update is pushed out...
I do think it effects crit fails a bit... but never really bothered to test...
As a home builder, it's more about bulk than quality of the resource.
