Hey Everyone, just starting on the glorious road to Master Architect and I've already run into my first dilema. I decided to make a couple personal extractors for practice. After reading through the boards I've figured out that harvesters require Steel with High UT/SR/HR. Went and discovered that we have a current shift of Steel that is UT 936, SR 999, and HR 994 !!! I'm yippie-woo-hoo'ing all the way to mysurvey point. The thing is... i want to start making stuff but nothing I'm going to be able to make right now is going to be any good and I don't want to waste this prime Steel on Novice Architect wares. Would i be foolish to go purchase 'lesser' resources off the bazarr and save this stuff for when I can actually make something useful???

That would be quite the opposite of foolish.

On my way to master I grinded away 300k of high quality ore into walls.

Now being a master I payed 2mios to get the same amount.

Keep the good steel, even if it slows you down now you will be happy later that you did so.

Another way to look at this.

you have a valuable WP

you have some personal harvesters I assume on this steel. you are not gonna end up with 300k of it, but rather more like 30k something that might work for you is contact an Architect on your server, and offer him the WP for say 3 Heavy harvesters, or a few Med harvesters. If you cannot do this sell the WP to a resource vendor and buy some 10 BER mediums. thirdly if none of those work you can sell some of this new steel at its high value and buy some 10 BER meds. now in all 3 of these cases, you plant your new harvesters and in the end you have even more of this sweet steelin storage for later, and better harvesters.

in the end you are way ahead on the resource game that is Architect

Weasel gives some good advice. Mine this for all it's worth, try to keep as much of it as you can, and parley the waypoint and/or some of the materials into building your harvester fleet. In the long run that will benifit you much more than whatever xp you'd get this week from grinding that into walls.

one more thing...a story

to give an example how something like this affects the future. I was using personal harvesters, and maybe a couple med harvesters on Licat steel(the best Bloodfin has yet to see) back in the day, not having a clue what it was worth. I had just reached Instalations 4 so I made my first fusion because it was desperately needed. I knew it was good, but I didnt really know that it was a waste to throw most of the steel into the wall units generators, etc. I built a 29 BER fusion wich I still have. that fusion is worth a few million credits now, but back then I couldnt afford to do much besides feed my harvesters. Imade a few more fusions that sold really quickly, and that was the begining of my empire.

If I actually handled everything correctly I had enough resources to make probably another dozen of these 30 ber monsters. I could be swimming in power or credits. instead I am only bathing in credits

knowing where the value lies is huge, and new architects are at an advantage to at least me when I started. so much information out there to absorb.

My best advice. expand your harvesting before you do anything. sell the crap for whatever you can get and keep your best harvesters. get more lots, and then get even more. and once you do that, get more lots, and then a few more. once you think you have enough lots/harvesters/resources to choke a planet, get more, because you will get 2 orders on the same day for 50 heavy harvesters each, and you will have just used most of your resources re-stocking your store.

have fun and build like Levit, harvest like DeVries, and produce like Ford

Agreed. Keep the good stuff, & hold out until you need grinding materials. That is High Grade steel, and can make awesome harvesters, and even Weaponsmiths would be using that grade of steel.

I agree. I'm a master architect/master weaponsmith and that steel would make some great melee weapons.

wow I wish I could find some of that. 999 SR. sheesh!

Thanks for all the advice guys. Fortunately for me, my former profession was quite profitable for me, so I've currently got 2 heavies and 3 personals (I hate mountains) on it. I would have put more, but I've got a house and three fusions (PE 920) down already Its just killing me waiting to build something I checked the bazarr, and I guess because of the 'holo crazy' everyone thinks they can sell 'grind' resouces for high prices. Everything was in the 5+ cpu range for 'grind' resources, so I'm just going to sample on a high concentration so I can actually play around with crafting stuff. Thanks again.

Forget the Bazaar, prices there are not representative, check out some of the many resource vendors, you will find grind quality much cheaper if you are prepared to go to the effort of shopping around
