Thread: Dev's Streetlights as Home Furnishings work great but need an adjustment.

First off I have a house on Tatooine.

Torchs as a primary light source in a game that has engery weapons seems a tad off.

Be nice if the Free standing lights would light up.

I don't want any torchs or smoke showing in my tatooine house so I creatily tried to hide them in the walls and large furnishing.

I find the streetlights style 4 are perfect for interier design as you can rotate the light bulbs into the wall till you have exactly the level of light you want.

The 4 colors can be used to make rooms glow with color and give your house a new look.

Only 1 problem. I understand the streetlights were to be used only outside in player cities there fore their on/off is tied to the day/night cycle. So my what i think is great use of lighting in my house is only visible half the time at night when the lights are "on"

I would love to see either streetlights that are placed inside a building are on full time, or a "swith" i.e. choice in a menu when u select the streetlight to turn it on and ignore the day / night cycle.

or

It might be easier to give us a new series of lights based loosly on the streetlights that would be placed inside that were not tied to the day/night cycle.. with the same color choices and give us choice in styles and height (a freestanding type floor lamp or a ceiling high corner floodlamp type such as the streetlights now are the perfect hight for.

just my random gibbering thoughts

Well, one point, i don't think the devs ever intended the streetlights to be used as interior furniture since they programmed them, as you said, to light only according to the day/light cyle. In some houses, that i've seen, thesestreet lights actually look out of place and bulky. There is one simple solution to all our lighting needs: allow the free standing lamps we archs can make ACTUALLY PRODUCE LIGHT. These lamps are the simpliest solution to house lightingneeds and are the right size for interiors. They will provide 24hr light source and not according to any cycles. Here is my proposed solution:

  • Change Schematic for Free Standing Lamp to include Electronics GP Module (the unit used to give torches light)

  • Allow Free StandingLamp to come in 5 or 6 styles for interior customization purposes

  • Allow customization of light color

  • Allow customization of lightintensity (with this added few lamps can be used to light large rooms found in PA halls, Large Houses and City Halls. This also allows less light to be emited in small rooms which will allows them to be less bright like small hallways and corner rooms)

With this implimented, it would help a great deal. I really honestly don't think this is asking much. The Free Standing Light has been in game since day one and why it has not been given the ability to produce some kind of light source till this day is absolutely ridiculous. Devs, if you don't give us custimization, at least give us light. Why are we stuck to use torches in a day of all this technology to light our houses. With interior light custimization it gives home owners the ability to create their own personal look and feel for their home. And with light intensity options, we can make our houses less or more bright or whatever. Seeing my point? We want customization and options, not stale standard defaults.

yep pretty much what i said..

with the excepiton of being able to chose lighting intensity.. this is a great idea.. love to see that.. along with multible styles, multible colors ect ect.. and if you place em right the streetlights look like part of the room.

i'll have to post some pics when i finish my house interier.

Just as a note..

I have always assumed the torches are simulated torches, not real fire and smoke, burning torches since they never burn out and they require a Electronics Module to work.

Just a thought, if they fix Free Standing Lamps and implement some or all of your suggestions ---

Would it be cool if they made all houses dark without them, forcing ppl to buy them from us? Or would that be lame..

Some houses alreadycome dark and poorly lit. Take the Medium Naboo House for example, the side rooms are very dim and need torches just to see dropped items. I think the best example is the Small Round Naboo house. The entry way is so poorly lit i placed a vendor in there and couldn't see anything, i had to hit Ctrl+Lto get my personal light on just to see items i dropped. Houses already are poorly light, except for the generic houses because of their white or metalic walls. Giving us light custimization has to be a plus on the dev's list, but since our own Arch coorispondent does't really post that often, i don't even know if this issue will ever get developement attention which would be a shame since we are asking for so little here.
