Thread: New Profession! Hole Digger!
Some people have mentioned that there ought to be a way to level ground, allowing for placement of structures in otherwise 'un-buildable' areas.
I like what I've beenhearing. In fact, I propose a whole new profession to meet this need... THE HOLE DIGGER!
To make sure my idea gets implemented, I'll now take this opportunity to explain the Hole Digger in a way that is sure to appeal to the devs.
(----------The Hole Digger------------)
The Hole Digger has the special ability to dig holes at an incredible rate! The dirt from these holes can then be used to level the surrounding terrain, leveling surfaces so that structures demanding a large smooth land area can be placed where they ordinarily would not!
Also, holes can be stood around and admired by your fellow players! DE's can especially appreciate holes, as they now have something to put all their Load Lifters and other useless droids into! Now you can finally immerse yourself in the Star Wars Universe in the exciting and rewarding way you always wanted to... by diggin' totally cool holes for all your friends!
The Hold Digger has four main skill trees: Hole Depth, ShovelMastery, DirtManagement, and Hole Experimentation.
Of course, we feel that players probably can't handle all the amazing excitement Hole Digging has to offer without some time to "ease" into the profession, so upon implementing this class we feel that it would be best ifHole Experimentation was broken and had no effect on the quality of any holes dug whatsoever.
Additionally, once a hole has been dug and sold, we think that players should be able to re-deed their holes and move them where ever they want without fear of hole decay of any kind. While we offer many different 'styles' of holes, most of them will look exactly the same (Corellian and Generic holes, for example, are identical). Occasionally, as the player moves up the trees, we will offer a new style of 'dirt pile' schematic, but it too will actually be exactly the same as a lower level 'dirt pile' schematic, or just broken altogether. Oh, and for some random reason, we feel that Tattooine Grand Holes should only take 7 lots instead of the usual 9 for other planet Grand Holes, justbecause we said so. (NOTE: Sorry, no diggin' holes on adventure planets! Why? Holes on other planets aren't "StarWarsy," duh!)
During preliminary testing we also found that theK-18 Master Shovel wasmuch too over-powered in its awesome hole-digging abilities, and thus we have decided tonerf itfrom 26-48cubic feet per minute down to 5-12 cfpm. We're also letting MasterEntertainers use the L-42 shovel, which can dig holes 9000 times faster than a Master Hold Digger ever could with any tool, because we feel it fits theentertainer profession nicely. As an additional step to insure player frustration, er, enjoyment,an essential component for theK-18 (Spadeonium Ore), shall never appear on any server during anyresource shift, ever.
Now, as any real life hole digger knows, diggin' holes is hard work! You can really work up a thirst! Therefore, digging holes requires water! We feel that 80,000gallons of 992 OQ water for a Grand Hole isresonable. Oh, and from now on water will never appear in a concentrationgreater than 60%, and about 1/7 times you'll "CRITICALLY FAIL TO DIG A HOLE,"which means you lose all that water, your shovel will break, and your arms will fall off. Only a Master Bio-engineer can grow you new arms.
We've also had some complaints from testers that Imperials using faction shovels are ruining the economy by digging holes so big they can trap Krayt Dragons in them solo, so we're considering limiting Imperial shovel use to PVP hole digging exclusively.
So that's the Hole Digger, in a nut shell.Any suggestions, comments, orideas you may have that would make this professionactually worthwhile and funshould be posted below, where they will be completely ignored by the devs for months, then implemented in such a way as to make things approximately 697 times worse.
Thanks!
hahahahahahaha
the comedy is strong with this one
<breathe>
That was awesome. Giant hole to solo krayts, haha.
Still trying to figure out what the k-18 shovel is.
Great, now everyone and their chipmunks are going to have get FOTM Shovel Mastery. And I bet SOE won't add more skill points... how can players possibly be expected to balance essential skills like Pikeman withgetting their Dirt Management skills up?

Just a reference that Riflemen should appreciate (T-21).

This is the K-18: http://cdp-backhoe.com/WP/backhoe.htm
This is the Master Entertainer only L-42: http://cmms.cat.com/cmms/servlet/cat.dcs.cmms.servlet.GetModelSummary?classid=406&langid=en&rgnid=NACD&view=html&prdname=5230B+FS&prdid=5230B+FS&familyid=462&subfamilyid=317&dsfFlag=0&subfamilyheader=Front+Shovels
Dude, whatever. That K-18 you linked to is POST-nerf. Here's the pre-nerf K-18, in all its beautiful glory (this is what I used tosolo Krayts with back in the day. The graphics in these screenshots are ultra realistic, thanks to my ATI Radeon 3,209,239,000 Pro Ultra 512. If your graphics don't look this realistic, I suggest you get a new vid card and some ram or something.)

***UPDATE***
The first Uber Loot Shovel has been found... by me! Of course, the Shovelsmiths are all mad that we can get shovels like this now, but who cares? Note the Medium Gravel Piercing mod... sweet, eh? Now I just need some +25 Dirt Management tapes...
