Thread: ..::New to SWG please help me out::..
First off, welcome to SWG!
Becoming a Novice Architect requires mastery only of the Engineering disciplineof the Artisan skill tree. You would then have to complete all the skills found within the Architect skill tree to become a Master.
However, a majority of Master Architects have also master the entire Artisan skill tree. The reason being, there are structures which Architects craft that require components that can only be crafted by Master Artisans. So you can either subcontract those parts out to Master Artisans or you can simply master the Artisan skill tree--depending on how self-sufficient you want to be.
If your goal is to establish a business with a vendor or two, you might want to consider gaining some skills in the Merchant profession. If you think you might enjoy hunting or fighting, then you would want some experience in a combat profession as well.
The resources needed to build structures are intensive, and mastering the Architect takes patience, time, and even some help form other players.
Simply stated, you earn experience in the crafting professions but making items with your crafting tool. As you gain more experience and train in more skills, your menu of craftable items will increase.
Don't know if this answers your question but feel free to come back often and ask more questions as they arise. You might also want to read the various FAQ's which are located at the top of the Architect forum.
I would recommend reading the thread titled "Everything You need to Know about the Architect Profession..." that's stickied at the top of this forum.
...and harvest ore.

I'm new to SWG and I'm still an artisan but I just have a quick question how do I become an architect?
Learn to use a macro.
Quality does not really matter. 50K of quality ore will last a long time. You will burn through 1 million (yes, I mean 1 million) units of junk ore before you use up that 50K of quality stuff.
Orange/yellow stuff is nice, the gray stuff, not bad. But the Green Stuff, aahhhhh, that is the good stuff.
Named stuff is only important if you go into furniture making. (named ore is like Wilkey Wankey Corellian Carbonate Ore). Other then furniture, all Archs care about is if it is Green (Carbonate) or not, and how much can I harvest.
Now, as for mining the stuff, average concentration levels for ore is lower then most other resources. Averate is 45 to 60%. To find out how much you will be harvesting use the following formula:
(Concentration % of the resource)
divided by 70
times
(BER rating of Harvester)
Equals the amount in thousands you will harvest in a 24 hour period.
Example, a 50% concentration being mined with a BER 12 Heavy
(50/70 = 0.7143) x 12 = 8.57 or 8.57K of ore per 24 hour period.
Well, have fun! And if you can, try to find an Old Timer to help you out. Check vendors and see who is making harvesters and check this forum and ask for some help. Maybe consider joing a Guild or City that needs an Architect.

If you also become a Master Merchant, you will receive a 20% discount on the maintenance costs on your harvesters, houses and factories. This can add up real quick. If you set 5 harvesters, the savings will basicly make the maintenace on the 6th one free as compared to a non-Master Merchant.
You get no discount on the energy costs for structures though.

However, the discount will go away when someone without Eff 4 pays and you'll have to pay again.
crap harvestors until I got to novice archy....
large numbers of potted plants and small houses I sold on the bazaar....
ground my way up to 4334 with increasing large houses....
and only did 15 gungan heads via macro (and a few other statues so I could sell them) for the last couple boxes. I miss the old requirement of apprenticeship points for Master. I had more than enough, simply from paying attention to people spamming their needs at the Starports...
Took a couple months, but ...I developed a couple partnerships with other people in other professions grinding their ways up, and I also got a feel for the game's economics. (a feel..., as in, I have found the CU to be kick-ass for business. Sales have never been so good. I see many posts here about no business, the CU breaking their wallets, and I just have to wonder what I do differently. It's not my prices; bazaar search tells me I'm middle to high on most thing...)
