Thread: What do you charge just for labor?
If someone approaches you to build them something big, like a large house or heavy harvester, and they are providing all the resources, what would you charge them?
I had just saved up enough materials to build a large house, and some guy comes along and says "I want a large house and I'll give you the materials.
I was only going to charge him 5k, since I need the XP and I figured I'd spend about 40 minutes building the thing by hand, which equateds to a couple missions. On second thought that was a little cheap, but he said he'd give me 10k, which seemed a little more in line anyway.
Of course a master Arch would probably charge more, since they don't need the XP, but I'm curious what others would charge?
I also made sure to tell him that in this sort of deal, he takes on the risk of a failure, since I'm not making enough cash to compensate a possible loss. In the unlikely but possible event of a failure at the end, would you give the client a partial refund?
I let them bring me any resource type in metal/ore as long as it adds up to my number. (Ie: I charge 6.5k resources for a Solar Generator)
They are responsible for the loss in the case of final crit failure, I handle any minor crits along the way. Before I was master, my cost was an extra 15-20%.
I've pretty much stopped doing full resource trades. I don't need the exp anymore and it is just too much of a pain to spend 40 minutes making something or 3+ hours for anything with a lot of walls just for 10k or something.
My current one I've been going with is I will take all the ore you can give me towards my price. Also a certain amount of steel that depends on the stucture. I pay 3.5c/unit towards the cost. However there is always a minimum price. PA halls is 100k right now. Large homes is 50k and same with most Heavy Harvestors. This way I don't have to deal with the critical fails and ask them for more resources.
It is very different once you hit master. When exp isn't that important anymore, you rethink where you want to spend your time. I will never make more than 3 stucture components by hand anymore.
Anymore, I will give 3cr per for any amount ot low grade ore. I traded 25k low grade ore for a factory and I gave the guy 30k credits to boot. I need the ore more than the metals I used.. I have about 150k metals in stock, and ore is always the deciding factor on what I can make..
If someone /tells me I have all the resources to make a PA hall, what will you charge? my answer is 150k and you take the risk of a crit fail. BUT if I crit fail, and you bring me resources a second time, and I crit again, I will build the hall from my own inventory.
So basically, I do 1/3 the price if they have everything, and they take the risk on failure, or I will do 3cr per on ore toward the cost.. and more or less I will risk it, unless I am too busy, in which case I will try to talk them out of it, or just buy the ore outright and put them on the list at regular price.
Sounds like I need to raise my prices a bit then
Really what I was thinking was "I have 62k xp, so I need 60k more to hit Structures 4, and a large house should just get me there."
I try not to trade xp for credits like that, but since the factory fix, I grind out all my blocks manually for the XP until I hit master. Then my factory is going back up!
I never have built anything for resources (in live)and I never will. I don't carehow much they offer, it is not worth it to me to explain a critical fail if it was to happen.
Yah and i suggest other people dont do this as well , whats stops me from saying **edit** i failed on a PA hall and really i didnt then wait a week or less and sell it to someone looking for one....this can be exploited too easily on large items like that.Idont like these types ofdealsbut its their choice of course.
Now what i would charge if i did this probably 1cr per resource seems fair , free exp for you and you get money on top of it...cant beat that really.
No risk for me, and they know I can't scam them.
For resource trades I usually also give them credit of 2.5 per unit, unless it's something I really need or is real high quality and they look like they are on the fence. Then I'll give them 3-3.5 per. But I've never done a full supply trade, and I probably will only do them until I hit master, like most.
