Thread: Harvester Power Bug! Q3P0 150*24=3600
I just read the bugs and the fixed list. Aparently you are not listening to the players. Your explanation of the power consumption problem is completely wrong and irrelevant to the issue at hand.
Currently ( last time I checked ) power consumption is being listed at 150/hr for a heavy mineral extractory. That works out to 3600 power / day since 150*24=3600.
So first of all lets clear this issue of power/day. Go down to the developer in charge of this and ask them point blank. What is the correct power usage / day of a heavy mineral extractor? Then come back here and tell us what he told you. If he says 3600 then that is gonna be a problem.
Why? Because before the patch the power consumption of a large mineral harvester was 1800/ day.
When I went to your bug list I expected to see a comment on power consumption / day or / hour, but all I saw was some irrelevant text about the power input. Specifically how much power we get from the fuel we use. That is not what we are saying has changed. We are talking how much "effective" power is in the extractor after the fuel (radioactive, solar, wind) is inserted and consequently the rate of consumption of that power.
Here is what YOU are saying....
Insert 500 units of 500 potential energy power = 500 power in extractor
Insert 500 units of 250 potential energy power = 250 power in extractor
Insert 500 units of 1000 potential energy power = 1000 power in extractor
Great, I mean it does not work from my experiments, hasn't since you said you put it in the last patch but whatever that is another bug. Problem is it has nothing to do with the bug that came in with this patch. That bug is with consumption or display of consumption, not insertion. We are not confused, you are.
What WE are saying is: (assuming heavy mineral extractor)
(pre patch) 75 power/hr * 24 hours = 1800 power per day
(post patch) 150 power/hr * 24 hours = 3600 power per day ( real?? or display only??)
Now do you see the difference and why we are so concerned?? You just doubled the amount of power we need / day to run our extractors. Thanks...
The problem was probably caused because while pre patch maintenance was charge / half hour power was charged / hour. In fixing/changing the display/source of data you applied the same rule to the power you did to the maintenance. That was your mistake.
Maintenace equation example: (again a heavy mineral)
(pre patch) 45 cr/half hour * 48 half hours = 2160 credits/day
(post patch) 90 cr/hour * 24 hours = 2160 credits/day
Compare that with the power equation again.
(pre patch) 75 power/hr * 24 hours = 1800 power per day
(post patch) 150 power/hr * 24 hours = 3600 power per day ( real?? or display only??)
You went and cut the ticks in half for maintenance while doubling the cost. This left maintenance per day the same. But since power was already ticking every hour pre patch when you doubled the power cost like you did with maintenance and left the power consumption ticks the same it doubled the daily cost...get it?
Now I have not played today so I cannot say if the power consumption / hour display/actual was correctly changed to be 75, and not 150. Regardless you explanation is completely wrong. If you are in fact understanding what the problem is. You explanations should be something like...
"We noticed a display problem in the power consumption / hour. It was saying 150 where it should have said 75, sorry for the confusion, power was being used at the same rate as pre-patch it was just being displayed at twice the rate. Ooops..."
or...
"Power was set in the patch to what we had originally intended, 150/hour on a heavy extractor. However since you have been playing all this time with your extractors using power at 75/hr we are setting it back to pre-patch levels like we promised but with the new improved display. Sorry that got into live from test. Ooops...."
or...
"Unfortunately our design says that power consumption on a heavy mineral extractor should be 3600/day not 1800/day as it was pre-patch. We know this is a pretty big nerf but felt it needed to be done for -insert reason here-. Sorry."
Bottom line is unless one of the 3 explanations provided above or some reasonable fascimile appears on your bug page we are still having a mis-communication on what the real problem is.

I read that post that explained the why we thought it was wrong, and thought, that doesnt have anything to do with whats going on. I'm hoping this is an unintentional nerf, because if not, after i run thru my current power supply, i'm done with crafting alltogether.
I did an actual physical check just to make sure what I was seeing was accurate and that they are actually using the same amount as before. Both harvesters were placed tonight (10/10/03). One was made pre-patch and one was made post patch.
Heavy Gas, pre-patch used 75unit/hour. That comes out to 1.25 units per minute which is 25 units for the 20 minutes I ran.
8:54PM EST 9:14PM EST
2500 power left 2475 power left
16:40:17 (harv time) 16:30:17 (harv time)
(HH:MM:SS)
Ok, 20 minutes REAL LIFE time had passed. The counter showing how much time was left on the power showed 10 minutes as you can see. 25 units of power were used.
Now, if you use real life time
25 units were used in 20 minutes. That's 1.25 units per real life minute which is 75units/hour
Now, game time which I am going by the harvester count down timer
25 units were used in 10 game minutes. That's 2.5 units per game minute which is 150units/hour
Game time is HALF of what REAL LIFE time is. That is as far as the harvester was concerned.
Now, this was on a pre-patch created harvester so, I made a small harvester and placed it. That's a POST patch created harvester now. Small harvesters were always .4166 units per minute which is 4.166 units for 10 minutes.
9:18PMEST 9:28PMEST
9 power left 5 power left
11:29 11:34
(MM:SS)
Now, as you can see, once again, harvester count down time left is half of real life time. 10 minutes passed in RL but only 5 minutes passed on the harvester count down. That comes out to 4.166 units per minute based on real life time. It's 8.33 units per minut based on the harvesters time of 5 minutes.
So, pre-patch heavy and post-patch small are both using the proper amount of power for me. It's only being displayed wrong.
