Thread: Splitting the Architecture skill tree...
Here's how I would split the Architecture skill tree, if it were possible.
First of all, create two professions instead of one: "ARCHITECT" and "INTERIOR DESIGNER".
For "ARCHITECT", remove the "Furniture" skill path from architect entirely and replace with "SPECIAL STRUCTURES" I can't think of a better name at the moment, but it would include outdoor and public structures. This new skill path would include items like the following, that already exist in the game, could be planet specific like the houses, and could all come in small, medium, and large sizes:
courtyard
gated courtyard
garden
patio
fountain
courtyard
gated garden
public walkway
Vendor enclosure
Cantina
Outdoor pavillion
Outdoor stage
Town Square
etc.
For "INTERIOR DESIGNER", add many more of the furniture items seen in the game as well as make furniture able to be CUSTOM COLORED like clothing. Add decorative objects like paintings and sculpture as well. Each item could be made in various sizes and styles. In addition to the current furniture skill tree add more styles as seen in the game and some additional items. Some examples:
Folding screen
Painting, various styles
Sculpture, various styles
Wall Mount, various types (you put item to be displayed in wall mount and then player can place on wall)
Fishtank
Indoor Fountain
Front portch light
Front porch chair
Balcony & Patio Furniture
Area Rugs
(Simulated) window/skylight
etc.
I'm sure some way could be worked out to modify the paths. A one time "trade back" where architects could choose to substitue the furniture path for the new architect skill tree or keep the furniture skills and and lose Master Architect status until they got the new skill tree. Or something like that.
I won't hold my breath, but I see the "Interior Designer" could be just as viable as Tailor and the color customization could add a lot to vary the look inside houses.
Just my wishful thinking.

Yea, this would be cool, but of course it'll never happen. However I would love to see special structures like you list added. Player towns are gonna need them.
While we're wishing (shouldn't this thread be in the "suggestions" forum?) the "town" style structures shouldn't take up a person's lots. Instead they should take up "player city lots" of which every player city would get 10 or so. Only the city's mayor (or his designate) could place them, and they'd require minimal maintenance. And they'd cost money to move, since moving a fountain isn't easy or free ![]()
They have to add more professions in the near future to fill needs, so I wouldn't doubt that they make a3rd Tier of professions... So your Interior Designer would require Furniture IV to become Novice Interior Designer... Or a City Planner (when Player Cities are added) would require Buildings IV and Construction IV...
Future profession needs include:
City Planner, Politician/Mayor, Mechanic (for player vehicles and eventually for starships in the Space Expansion), Fighter Pilot, Admiral, Strategist, and many more.
Those are great ideas and would help to alliviate the massive pile of people who are architects and make us more unique from each other. It would be fun to work with an interior designer to together build a beutiful home for someone. I would also love to be able to build statues, fountians, mini parks and gardens and other decorative buildings.
However, I would rather them make it so I can build harvesting mechanisms and make my factory stop eating items.
But thats just me!
arrrrgh....the above was meant to be a quote and hitting the space bar posted it.
I started this thread here as it related to the architecture profession and I couldn't find an "suggestion" forum. The discussion forum seemed too general. It's you people reading this forum that would have ideas or further suggestions to addthis thread.
I like the suggestion that Interior designer could follow furniture IV. In a similar manner a maker of the special structures could follow one or more of the other architecture skill paths. It's always easier to add than change something existing in a game like this so making these add on professions rather than a split makes sense.
Obviously there's existing architecture stuff to work on, but I too see a glut of architects and a niche in furniture design that could be filled out to differentiate the players interested in this profession area. ![]()

1. a way to put things on walls and tables
OR a step-ladder (small staircase) so we can place things at vertical levels in our houses
This would be a great idea, and I can see it being added easily when Player Cities are implemented.
Now correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe its been said that when we get player cities, the devs are just going to dump the schematics for cantinas, hotels, shuttleports, etc into the architect tree. I always thought this would make architect way to top heavy. Why not do this split when we get player cities, and replace furniture with a city planner tree. The lower levels will have things like fountains and paved squars while level IV would be where you could make shuttleports and what not.
When we get player cities there are going to be ALOT more furniture possibilities for all the municipal and public buildings. All of those possibilities could help flesh out your new Interior Designer profession. That way every player city won't be so cookie cutter, with the exact same interiors in all their buildings, and there woudl be alot of job opportunites for the wandering ID. ![]()
