Thread: First Large House(Crit Failure) need some advice :(

I worked my butt of over the last few days to pull together the resources to make a Large House. Was quite excited, as it'd be the biggest thing I've ever made.. Put all the stuff together(no failures on anything below the final). Stick it all in the factory, turn out 10 wall modules of 3 different serial numbers. Go to my private crafting station(use bonus).. Pull out my max use structure tool.. Combine..

Critical Failure.

So now what do I do? Why bother with Architect if I've got this chance to lose 40k resources, days of work, in a single instant? It's not like I can buy the resources, Valcyn's mineral economy is stagnant at best. I'm ready just to pack up and become something else.. ANYTHING else..

I see Weaponsmiths making hundreds of guns for 100cr a resource(20k for a laser carbine atm). I see Armoursmiths making just as much. Hell I see tailors advancing quickly and cheaply.. Where are architects? 37.7k resources gives 80k exp.. Woot.. Except.. I can lose it all.. Instantly. Gone. Poof. I'm fine with failing my combines on wstructural modules, or hell even wall modules. But when you take all my work.. and let it just pop..

What am I supposed to do when I begin training furniture and my failure rate increases? how do you guys keep in the game after that first huge failure? I'm demoralized and I need someone to give me some encouraging words

Well sorry to here about your loss, but you know it happens and eventually happens to all but the very lucky. Heh, People have even failed on Guild Halls. Now that would truly bite!. So as they say just get back into the saddle my friend.

I think it comes down to two major choices. You either laugh or you cry. Then you pick up your tools and move forward. Doesn't matter which choice you make, the key is that last step. If you can't put it behind you and go on, then maybe a career change would be best for you, because we all fail sometimes, there is no avoiding it. The important thing is that an architect builds things, or tries to. So as long as you keep trying you are still in business and the successes are sweeter than the failures are bitter in the long run if you keep at it.

Lemme ask: was this a project for a customer, a PA or yourself?

If it was for yourself at least realize you got experience for every component you successfully completed. Sorry it didn't turn out but the whole 40k got you so far at least.

If it was a PA, then it's their loss but these things happen. Walk it off, so to say.

If was for a paying customer, architects take note: if you're going to take a large project like this be sure to warn the customer! Itemize the project out in terms of components and contract some sort of schedule; have the buyer hold finished components as your guarantee for completion.

Even if it means breaking up payments between components, at least this way you can reach a reasonable agreement in case of failures!

It brings up an excellent point though... what happens if the final house project doesn't go through?

I crit failed my very first factory. Not pleasant when I used every resource I had for it. Just gotta keep your head up and move on. It won't be the last time it happens...

Here are my words of encouragement...

"It can only get better"

Right now, Architects are the hardest crafting class to make money while requiring the most resources of any other class. This is going to leave the developers a choice, they're going to have to balance it somehow by making all critical failures give back partial components. That or they're going to have to make houses more worthwhile to the average person, making US more worthwhile in the process. Either way, we're going to get better. By the time these changes come about most of those that stick it out will be Master Architects and hardened against all sorts of obstacles (failing on large houses and PA's). When those good changes come about you'll be glad you chose the architect path.

Stick to your Structure/Furniture tool and it will pay off in the future.

Advice:

- Go to a shooting range and imagine the target is your crafting kit.

- Dont hurt your pets. It's no their fault.

- Take a deep breath and try to realize that "there is no spoon."

- Realize that large house just made you a load of exp even before the final combine, so it's all good.

- Yell at a houseplant.

- Houses, kits, deeds, a Jedi craves not these things.

- Do NOT do the math to figure out how long it will take you to make another.

- Realize that by achieving the critical fail, at least you know you have the recipe right.

- Write a flaming rant about this post. It will make you feel better!

I crit'd on my first large house, not very cool. But you pick yourself up, and brush it off; cause there is alot worse (not that you need to hear it). My friend failed on 2 PA halls for 2 different people. Think of that pressure, the poor guy that was standing there was devastated; but he understood and told my friend that his friends would try again.

We're all with ya man, we've been there too, yeah it sucks.

All I can say is remember that it's a game. Have fun. If you sweat every assemble, it's not going to be fun.

I let out a few chuckles in between sobs, then I run back out to the harvesters.

Sometimes I even shoot some things on the way. . .

Failing on larges structures is pure BS in terms of adding challenge to the game.

It is the equivelent of having lighting strike fighters dead every now and then. Nothing they can do to stop it, just "bam, you're dead."

Lots of useless posts in this thread .. 2 key things

#1) Play a Mon Cal, +10 structure assembly is HUGE bonus on reduced failures.

#2) Max furniture tree _FIRST_ furniture tree provides another +35 structure assembly virtually eliminating failures.
