Thread: Do I really need a house?
Why do I need a house?
What does a house provide a player?
Can someone please explain this to me. I've been homeless since release day, and I have not come across a need for a house. To me a house is simply a status symbol. I have no desire to sell anything (via a personal vendor).I simply use the bazaar or person to person sells, or posting my desire to sell something on my server forum. It works! I make money on the street.
So I ask, why do I need a house?
Myself and others would your best sell pitch on this one. I'm sure I'm missing something here? Probably because I don't own a house.
You can store stuff in houses. Unless you're a merchant type, that's the only tangible advantage. There's also the whole sense-of-community thing (assuming you build your house near other people's houses). When they put player cities in, there might be more advantages to being part of a city.
WEEEELL, I guess for someone like you, the best option you could look at for a house is this :
Once your main pack and your bank gets filled, items can be stored in a house for ALOT more room ( you can just keep the house private and drop things scattered all over the floor if you really dont care
). .
oh and when ( or IF lol ) they ever fix admin rights on houses, its a great way for friends and Mates to share items and recources with one another even if those players are not online at the same time. You just drop something on the floor of your house, and Bob you Uber Homeboy comes on later to pick it up ![]()
So you see houses can do alot for you. There are two ( well kinda 1 untill they fix admin rights ) points as to why a hoise can still be a valuable thing to own for a person in your situation . . .
Now buy a house from me on Ahazi! ![]()

Why would you want one? Well, you already pointed out one reason... status symbol. Having a nicely appointed pad to show to your friends is kind of a nice, roleplaying, accomplishment type thing.
Next... storage. You can drop items (and move them around as you wish) in your house. A couple hundred of them, I believe. So you can store things which you can retrieve without running to a city to hit a bank.
Cantina service. If the camps are stil bugged, (and I think they are) if you and your friends are out hunting in the wild, you can choose to hunt out near your home. (Which will be away from the city where the larger mobs are.) When you start building up wounds and battle fatigue, you can just go to your house if you have anyone with even novice entertainer with you, and use your house as a cantina to wipe out your battle fatigue. I'll have to check, but I'm pretty sure the docs can heal your wounds up in a house also, like in a medical center, but I can't swear to that.
Later on, when it's fixed, it's also possible that, if one of your friends is a merchant, you could make a few bucks on the side by letting them put a vendor up in your home. (If it's in a good location, anyway.)
I'm sure there's more reasons, but I've only had one cup of coffee so far. :-)
None of this is intended to say that *you* specifically SHOULD get a house, mind you. I'm looking for an argument about how that doesn't apply to you... blah blah blah. You asked what houses could do for you, and those are just some generic examples that could apply to anyone.
That was supposed to be "I'm *NOT* looking for an argument..."
When, oh when, are we ever going to get a freaking edit button?
Thanks for your replys. The cantina option is really nice.
Also, does my house provide safety from attacking MOBS?
I do see a need to leave items for others when your not online. I get around the storage issue by using backpacks in my bank slots. However, being able to transfer items while not online adds a level of flexibility that I don't have at the moment. Something to consider.
Thanks again everyone.
Also, by the by, putting things in your bank in backpacks doesn't save you any space. In fact, it costs you one space for the backpack. If your total available bank space is 100, and your pack holds, say, 40, and it's full, you'll only be able to put 60 more in the bank. (Or 59, actually.) Yes, house storage can be nice. I think that currently all houses are supposed to hold 250 dropped items, but devs are looking at changing it.
FYI, permissions are currently bugged, and only the owner can drop and pick up things in the house. When it's fixed, yes, you can use that as a way to transfer stuff with your friends while you're offline, but currently you can't because of the admin bugs. Just fair warning.
Well, a house has many advantages for all types of people.
Crafter/Merchant types:
- Extra storage space
- A place to put player run vendors
- A place for peace and quiet to craft and manage tells coming in to order your products
- A symbol of your wealth and advancement of your craft (large house = rich crafter)
Combatant types:
- Extra storage space for all those hides/bones/meat
- A place to exhibit those nice suits of full set armors you have.
- A safe area to rest and regen.
Actually, I don't quiteunderstand why wouldn't a combatant want a house. If the house is set to be private, it provides the BEST security (other than exploits) against death. Endor being too rough for you? Put a small generic house at a buildable zone and hunt in safety! All combatant should have a house near their favorite hunting ground in each planet for that reason.
