tried \#ff00ff\ didnt work, tried \#ff00ff(text) didnt work. Took me 30mins or more to get my afk msg to come out right lol

You cannot do it, you used to be able to do it, but the devs decided that it was an unfare advantage for selling on the bazar to have colored names, so they took it out of the system, the only items you can still do it on are all the craftable backpacks, cargo pockets (the container ones not the coponent ones) and satchels, you can also do it on house signs too.
