Thread: Vaults, an idea for housing storage without havign to place multiple houses
I was thinking about the storage problem a LOT of crafters face and that is running out of storage space because of al lthe different resources needed and not being able to Furnish your home at the same time.
Most people are putting down 2,3 or more small houses to get more room. Since they are doing this anyway, why not have a new item Architects can make called Vaults.
Each Vault would use 1 lot (which stores up to 75 items) and adds like 75 credits to the maintenance of the house. This will allow crafters to have more room and have it all in ONE house. A small house uses 2 lots and you could add up to 8 vaults. This would use up 10 lots and add up to 750 credits per day to the maint.
The reason for a Vault item versus just raising the storage limits of houses? Because not everyone needs the extra storage. Most combat types don't even use half or all of what they have now so why eat up database space for those that don't need it?
It's either deal with more and more houses being placed to compensate for the small amount of storage space for crafters or having a vault in the ONE house they own.
The numbers are not written in stone of course.
I have a personal house decorated, since I'm the mayor, and I have FOUR medium houses for nothing but storage of materials and some crafting. Some are in other peoples names, as are many of my factories... but there's no reason to leave the footprint of four medium houses as a plague on the land. I know that there are a number of folks in our city who have multiple houses as well. It's probably in the area of 2 houses per person. Why? Let's just go with vaults. I dig that idea.
Make the valuts ( one lot footprint reguardless of size ) have a pay mantenance directly related to valut size running form 75 to 250 storage.
Make the pay mantenance the same as houses with the same values..
That being said, there is already a one lot, 100 unit storage facility available in game. It just isn't called that

Ahhhhhh yes, that is why.
When you place houses for storage, you are using up lots. They will never do this unless it takes up lots.
( Two head, that is my favorite storage compartment, and now you can even access it while the factory is running )

My idea included the use of lots though. As I stated, they use 1 lot and add 75 credits per day to the maint. of the house.
This is to limit the amount of storage space people add and replaces all the houses people are putting down for nothing but storage.
Those that don't need the extra storage won't be eating up database space like they would if they upped the limits on ALL houses. Since people are putting down extra houses anyway, why not just put the extra storage in the same house and remove all those excess houses from the landscape?

I will support it Scortch, if it uses lots, then it is the same is placing houses.
Exactly
Instead of having to run all over the place though and more urban sprawl, your extra storage is inside the house where it has no effect on lag, taking up good space in cities, etc.
I think it would be a big advantage all the way around personally.

I think it's a great idea. I wouldn't expect it to be implemented, but I think it's a great idea.
I wouldn't expect it to be implemented -because- it's a great idea.
Can I change my name to cynicalchuck? jadedchuck?
Great Idea.
Too good though which means it won't be implemented.
