Thread: Structure Placement

Okay I have a structure factory and of course I would like it to be near my house so I go outside and play the placing game. No luck I twist, spindle, wiggle and wag my factory all over and it can't be placed due to rocks and small dents in the landscape. So like a good architect I go a little farther away and find a home for my factory (~1000 meters away) I am happy, life is good.....blah blah blah ...right. So anyway onto the true purpose of this post. This weekend I log in to do my harvester and vendor stuff and lo and behold there is a PA Hall in my backyard...damned near touching my house! Yes, this was a place I tried to place my factory and when I tried my placement there were no spawns there or anywhere on my 126m compass. So is a PA Hall smaller than my factory. I agree structure factories are big but come on!

posted this earlier in the Artisan forum, but realized that this is probably best located here.

A couple of issues related to buildings and in specific harvestors in terms of placement. Though with the advent of player cities, this may also be an issue there as well.

Bug:

When in a forest (especially at night), regardless of your personal lighting, if the ground is of the correct type, you cannot see past the 'top' of the trees, and have no idea where/if you can place a structure. For structure placement, would it be possible to have a "turn off trees/foilage" option in the Options section.

Color-blindness: the red/green placement colors make it almost impossible to differentiate proper placement locations for people with red/green color blindness. Close to 10% of men have some degree of this type difficulty. (might misremeber cross hatching directions, but I'm pretty sure they all go in the "same" direction, at a minimum, change direction of cross hatching. confirmed: cross hatching direction is the same)

Improvements:

When you attempt to place a structure in an apparently flat zone or any zone for that reason, it would be nice if you could get some feedback as to WHY you couldn't place that structure. e.g. "Slope too large" "Irregular terrain" "Too near creature habitat".

I'll end up on a flat river delta that looks perfectly flat, in fact flatter than 90% of the other land I end up placing deeds on, only to never be able to place for some unknown reason.

Also, it would be useful to when you activate a deed, to receive feedback if there are no possible places in your current range to place. Radial -> Use Deed prints "No land near you is suitable for this structure", instead of twisting and turning your structure over and over in hopes that there might be one or two magical places in that area that would allow a structure to be built.

Just some issues,

Hell, Id settle for fixing it so that it doesnt show up green when you try to place in the no-build zone.

I know it is easier now to place structures in areas we couldn't placebeforedue to Player cities.

Is this true for ALL structures (such as harvesters)?

I am trying to save a lot for a bank (3x3) by using a harvester (also 3x3) but it won't let me place (not sure why since there is nothing in te way), is this because it is a harvester and not an actual building or will I not be able to place the bank there either?

Thanks for any info.

harvesters are not easier to place ... only houses and public structures.
