How many items can one drop in small, medium, and large houses? Is there a limit and does it differ between house sizes?

You get 75 items per lot the house you placed uses.

So if you house costs you 2 lots. You get 150 spaces.

Now there is a limit of 250 items per house. So if your house costs you 6 lots, You do not get 75 x 6.

It will cap at 250 items.
