I am making the ore mining units for heavy harvesters and getting ber6. Is this the cap for these?

6 is the highest BER rating that the OMU will report when examined, but that number is slightly misleading. Behind the scenes, the game seems to keep track of fraction BER ratings on the OMU, but the screen only displays a rounded down value. Generally speaking, if you want to have the highest BER currently possible on the final harvestor, you need to get the experimental efficency up to at least 90%. Because of this I usually label my OMUs with the experimented value at the end.
