I have just recently completed the fist of my 3 goals in SWG which was to become a Master Architect and create a Guild Hall (PA Deed) for my group of close friends that I have been playing games with for years. Shortly I will be loosing this skill to adventure as a Smuggler and pistol toting rebel as I originally intended. Yay me! Prior to doing so I would like to pass on a few of my feelings about the class in general, feel free to disagree with me on any of it but either way its how I feel.

First off I love the fact that you can practice now, the constant grind of generic crafting tools and axes to get to Master Artisan nearly drove me nuts, quite often I felt like I was banging my head against a brick wall wile doing this. The practice option isn’t going to change that but it will definitely help people with the time required to get the exp they need.

Now I by no means can be considered a casual player but I do remember reading about the game prior to its release and being very impressed that if I wanted to I could play 4 or 5 hours a week, advance in skills and have fun. Yes fun. Now after it is all done and told I’m very discouraged that it didn’t turn out that way for the people that longed to play a crafting class for a bit of fun and still stay a casual player.

Simply put a person could play 5 hours a week but it would be incredibly inefficient and costly due to the shifting and missing resources. And lets not forget the time it takes to run to each of your machines, and find new locations for them each week, being based on Rori if I was not one of the first to the new location there was no chance of me getting my medium or large harvesters down due to all of the rolling hills and streams. I realize the need to prevent people (like me) from monopolizing the best locations for the rest of eternity but I also think there should be a better system that isn’t going to cost a player 30k every week just to move their machines because a resource ran out. Quite often my machines would have 5k in them and would doing nothing when I would deed them, because I foolishly thought I was going to get to spend a day off planet having fun with my friends rather than scrambling around for two hours looking for a new source of ore.

Factories were bugged in beta and they are still bugged today, you architects know what I’m saying when I state that loosing a run of generator turbines due to a bug can be crippling for both your business and your sanity. If the coding for the factories is not a priority to fix then at least have some decency to relax the factory made requirements on some of the structures.

As for houses I have only two issues that I think would improve the game quite a bit for all around, and they both really pertain to the PA Deed. First off the pathing or allowable movement areas of the Generic Planet PA Deed is horrible in the main room on the fist floor, and to day I cannot use my elevator (that I built) but the rest of my guild can. Thus I cannot go downstairs which brings up my second point. Admin’s of a structure should have the same rights as the “owner” I did not build a Guild Hall for my friends so it could be my house with only myself being able to decorate the building, that does not give the feeling of ownership in a guild. If I don’t trust the people that are Admin’s in my group not to steal my trophy rancor in the guilds living room they or I shouldn’t be in the guild. On a side note why is it that two people who have wedding rings on and are declared to each other cannot have the same house? “sorry Hun I need to run to my house” nice family.

I know this seems like a lot of bitching but like I stated its how I feel about these issues, please don’t think that I feel the whole class is a waste but there are still things to be worked on. Wish me luck as I move on to my chosen profession as a smuggler J
