Thread: Skill Tree Order

Well, I've finally made it to novice architect, and gotten enough experience points for my first arch skill. The problem is, I'm not sure where to spend it.

I really want to get medium harvestors as soon as possible- I'm already seeing how fast my resources are getting used up. When I hit novice arch, I had stockpiled over 12k low grade ore by having 2 harvestors on it. In just getting a single skill, I've used up all but 2k of that, and my harvestors have only been getting me between 3 and 3.5k each day to replenish it.

On the other hand, I find I don't really have much of an inventory of available buildings to sell. Novice just gives me houses for 3 starting planets. I've already gotten tells asking if I have medium houses.

So, do I go for Installations first, to increase my resource intake, or do I go for houses first, to increase the inventory of buildings I can offer for sale? I suppose I *could* just buy medium harvestors from other architechs- but then, maybe not. I'm on Valcyn. If no other archs have gone for installations, there may not be anyone selling them. Plus, even though I have over 100k credits, that will deplete rapidly if I start buying medium harvestros. I run 8 now. Since my goal is to increase my resource intake, I'd need 8 mediums. What's the going price for medium harvestors, anyway? IIRC, it was around 50-80k, but I can't really remember. The point is, I'd have to make a WHOLE lot more money just to get those 8 harvestors.

Choices, choices. Any advice from those who've gone before would be appreciated.

Im not an architect yet, but my advice is go for the installations first. Whats the point of being able to make a medium house if you can only do it once a week? Get you installations, and you can sell those to others. From things I have seen the market for installations is better than the market for houses. Once you have your medium harvestors up, you can crank out housing compents and save them. Once you have the XP take those stockpiled components and make medium houses.

This is all just from things I have heard reading posts and not my own experience. Im 15k GCXP away from arch.

actually the first tier of arc only lets you build other floor palns not medium houses, you dont get that until the second tier in arc. What I did was get the first tier of houses, all small, but you get a better variety per planet. And the gen 2 house is really cool. I am almost to my second block, should get tonight and I am going for furniture. i have 7 houses now I supply to and more furniture can add xp fast and pretty cheap, cheaper than houses anyway. Harvestors will be next to get that going but you only get factories and although i have been asked if I am selling them I can hardly keep up with the demand for me and friends to have to worry about others in this field just yet. But i will probably start them this next week to try to sell some to actually get some money going. then I think I am going to go to harvestors before i start the second tier and experimentaion. I may be worng but I dont see a big difference in experimenting in regard to houses, weapons i did but not really houses, maybe its just really because i dont have many points or because they are small but it seems kind of pointless to me right now.

These are my tactics I am by no means right in anyway except for me just saying what I am doing. I came into this game with some real good ideas and directions and my playing style led me to where I am. with minimal grind, only one long weekend, and justa few hours a night, with plenty of hunting I am a Novice arc, master artisan, almost rifleman, middle ground scout . I have been on since launch but I am by no means a power gamer. So take a look at what you want to do and go that way. I like the better houses and when people are looking for small and all you can build is the Tat igloo many people are turned off. Better product better prices more fun.

One thing to note. Some of the factories in installations I require a storage module you don't get until buildings I. That may affect the way you want to go up the tree.

Ya I got bit by that one, Kordak. The good news is that I used the opportunity to prefab all the components for the factory that I could do without Houses 1 and that was a good chunk of the xp needed to pick up that skill.
