Thread: Demand is about to climb
Afew months ago SWG was released and the game was fresh, no one had a house or extractor, and making your way up the Architect tree was easy. ( still is ).
There was HUGE demand and little supply and prices were very high. it was easy for any architect to run a busienss as customers flocked to your door.
Many people on these boards had a hard time with the result once the initial sales began to dwindle, supply overtook demand and prices started to drop. This has not run its course yet, we are just begining to feel the drop.
Good news for everyone, even if it is going to be short lived.
I see two things on the horizon that is going to increase demand dramatically in the short term, and I am not talking about decay.
#1 The impending European release is going to bring a large influx of new players across all servers.
#2 Player cities will require that you declare residence in a house you own to become a citizen of a city. Many combat classes will want to become militia and that will require owning a house ( and of course furniture )
I see the market demand climbing for a while in the near future. It will never return to the early days of SWG, that is gone. But I do see a solid in increase in demand coming for a month or three.
What have you done with the real Dayln? ![]()
You do realise that your posting ANYTHING about increasing demand (prices too presumably) is going to send 80% of the architect community into a state of shock?
I agree with your analysis of the short term ( < 4 Month) demand.
Personally I am more concened about the harvester changes being tested at the moment. If these are implimented it will cause HUGE changes in the economy. What's your take?
Hehe I agree. Dayln - good job I was already sitting when I read your post!
Callypso
Mkappus has a point.
You could even take it further and suggest that SOME players from Europe will move to the servers over there... reducing our population.
I guess this is the stuff that makes life interesting eh.
I am kinda torn on the whole decay thing.I see peoples points about continued buisness purchaces, but as a consummer i am kinda of upset that i will have to keep shelling out hunderedsof thousands of credits for large harvestors that will eventually decay and be ineffective. As long as Architects take that into account and price accordingly based on the decay factor i really don't have a problem with it then
Now show the Tailors some love too and give clothing decay and we will call it even ![]()
I dont like replacing my car either.
But the reality is, there has to be machinery sinks, there certainly is not enough now.
While SOE will release European Servers (they contract out to European providers) what the European release really does is place SWG on the shelves in European stores. Before the European release the only way to get SWG in Europe is to import it from an american distributor and paying top dollar (or pound) for shipping.
SOE will allow cross server play if a European chooses to play on an American server that is their choice to do so they will be paying the isp charges not SOE (note there are no free isp's in Europe connection to the internet is much more expensive and normally basedby thehour). Likewise if an American wishes to play on a new European server they will have the option to do so.
The server response times crossing the Atlantic will be the drawback to doing so, but many Europeans are used to dealing with shoddy connections to play American games where as Americans are spoiled by cheap fast service and more localized servers.

A) How many free isp's exist in the US that are of high speed?
B) I know a lot of europeans with better bandwith than I do.
C) I know that transatlantic hopping for the internet has little drawbacks these days. The only downside used to be when the american military still used it. Now adays unless a critical failure occurs, point to point connectivity should be acceptable for what swg requires.
D) Just like in the states, Your Milage veries by where you live. Whether your in hickville of america or the shire of europe, some places suck. Don't play that we're spoiled you're not antics.
Archs always talk about their form of Moores law.. well we haven't hit it yet in the real world, I don't think we're going to run ashore anytime soon in the arch community. Until we learn REAL metrics, not imagined ones, until SOE lets us know their figures and we can do proper statistics--every blows a lot of air.
