Thread: Furniture brainstorm
Give all seating a minor healing benefit, like a scout camp. The items would have three experimental variables that could be increased; aesthetics (mind healing), ergonomics (body healing) and comfort (action healing). The net effect should be much slower than a medic or entertainer, but faster than a scout camp of the same level.
Durability for these items becomes a healing pool. For each point of damage healed (or ten points or 100 points, whatever multiple works best in testing), a point of durability is deducted. These can be "recharged" with a furniture repair tool... but it takes a trained architect to do it without damaging the furniture. Even a Master recharge deducts a single point from the maximum capacity, so the piece eventually has to be replaced to maintain its healing properties.
Apologies if this has already been proposed. Medics might object, but it doesn't infringe on their turf any more than scout camps do. Scouts probably won't care one way or the other.

I *like* it! As far as I know you're the first person to think that up... Gee... if furniture was actually useful....
The ONE problem that I can think about for that.... if your house is public people will come in to sit down and burn out your furniture... Which wouldn't be bad for recurring revenue, but our customers might not like it so much heh.
Perhaps you could limit the healing to people that are on the Access List .... So your customer and his/her friends would receive the benefit and deteriorate the furniture, but strangers wouldn't...
Ah well... liking the general idea though =).
Now there is a GOOD idea. Think if all your furniture had some kind of benefit ie. like sockets in clothingor experimental variables, and lets say modest vs stylish then people would be willing to pay to have good furniture and they might even use it..LOL

Thanks for the feedback. I hadn't considered the public vs. private issue. The admin list is a good solution to start with, using the same code that governs who can access containers.
Dude - well done, man. Well done.
OMG. A reason to buy the furniture that takes 250 freakin wooly hide to make, but looks like crap?
Sold!
OK **edit** i was seariously, at work at 5am (PDT) and was like why doesn't furniture have a healing modifier? and boom I get off work and come here and boom there it is someone stole my idea!
oh well yah this is WONDERFUL idea.
Could it be some other benefit than healing? I feel somewhat uncomfortable in taking something that another profession provides. If we are able to build furniture that heals, should not doctors and musicians be able to make furniture?
I too think declared residences and use of furniture should provide a benefit, just not sure what, but I don't think it should be something another profession already has. Declared residency sounds easy enough; creation of some high level quests and perhaps entrance to theme parks should require it. I would feel more comfortable with furniture lowering the maintenance cost of a structure than I would with providing healing. But that idea does not sound logical.
Nah... I don't like the idea of using the access list to determine who gets healed.... how about automatically transferring 1 credit into the owner's account for every 10 points healed... Sort of like a forced tip... By the time the thing wears out, it has payed for its replacement.
Think of it this way folks: have the players be able to drop their OWN healing chair/bed/cot in a player made camp! People will be LOOKING for +% bonus furniture to take with them on their missions!!!
As for housing, ALL of the doctors will set up a small house, fill it with bonus heal beds and charge an access fee to enter the house!!! Imagine being a doctor and setting up a small healing house by a popular theme park with all the best in healing beds!
The schematics for these "healing furniture" should take some high level component made by a doctor as well, some type of "energy generator" that provides the healing power. Increase the dependence on the doctors, sell it back to them as an asset that they can make money from!!!!!
I agree with Acanis to a certain degree. Yes, healing should be left exclusively in the domain of certain professions BUT if the healing rate was much slower than normal I don't see the harm.
I can see this revitalizing the furniture market especially for the novice arhcitects who can't scrape together enough resources for housing. They instead could make GOOD money making furniture that actually heals. This might make architects even more specific about what resources they choose for certain pieces or make non healing furniture for a standard price that does not decay for a very long time (like 300 uses).
I can see the bazaar now, Couch of Healing +5 only 2000 credits! Ottoman of soothing +10 1500 credits! Act now and get a bed of endurance +10 for only 300 credits! (hehe, bed of endurance)
I digress. ![]()
Great idea!
