Thread: What, exactly ARE houses good for?

Many of the threads on the boards, especially those contributed to by the various combat classes, see housing as essentially worhtless. I am here to nullify that argument with a little factual information.

A LOT of combatants currently see housing as at best a trophy item. Fine, well & good.

Now, when you are PVP,5k from town & near death, how do you stop those nasty Rebels/Imperials/Duelists from attacking you? Simple. You run INTO your indestructible locked house, WHICH THE PVPer OPPONENT CANNOT ENTER.

Again, you're 5k from the nearest med facility, & you want a little breathing room to heal up some. Granted, you can toss up a camp (at least, scouts can), but does this stop the occasional wandering creature from being drawn to the smell of your wounds? No, yet your house puts you out-of-sight, out-of-mind of the wandering creatures.

Where do you go for that oh-so-important BF healing, when town is x meters away, and the country between is loaded up with redreds waiting to feast on your poor shell-shocked carcass? Camps won't allow BF healing, but you can sure as hells get it at home!

These 3 reasons do not even take into account the 2 (possibly 3, if you are a merchanter) most important reasons for having a house: namely that 1) you must own & declare residency of a house within a proposed city limit in order to be part of a player city & 2) away-from-bank storage!

So, for those of you who are combatants & see houses as worthless, pause a moment & think of all the things you actually do in your houses. Then please by all means please come back & tell me you would much rather be without a house, having to run5m to 10kmeters BACK to your combat zone every time one of the above circumstances happens to you.

Don't forget RP possibilities, use as a place to display your great achevements, status marker, storage, and its fun to decorate it to see what kinds of cool things you can come up with...

I've played the game from the start and have yet to need a house. I never carry anymore equipment then I need so have no need of a bank or storage.

Ummm... stop where you are let yourself heal and any TEF run out. If there are any enemies close enough to where you can't stop and heal then your bug squat anyway.

What is this 5K from anywhere stuff? How many people go 5k from any city and if they are it's on a planet that can't have houses built on it.

Of course this is from a Soloer's point of view so I have all the skills I need to survive on my own.

Why did you see it necessary to post this in all boards? Geez... Annoying to say the least.

I forgot that my house was around where I was fighting 24/7...I didn't realize they follow you around and let you exploit (going into a private house during a PVP fight is DEFINATELY an exploit).

I do agree that there are reasons houses are very cool and a LOT more than just a trophy item, but the reasons you give are not those reasons.

umm im a combatant and well i used to have a small house.

I used to use it to hoard CDEF carbines and old weapons when i was new and all weapons were good weapons....That storage is gone. I used to use it to hoard resources until i realized i didnt need them

And then i realized im spending all this money on a place where i rarely visit

I think houses will be much more important AFTER the whole death issue as fixed.>.Those red con scenarios you speak of are just "free trips back for a heal: to me

While the happen chance that your home is around during pvp, being able to run in and lock the door behind you is quite realistic, this is know as homefield advantage, this is realistic anyone who bitches about this should go set up cam in the middle of thier closest high crime city park and chill for awhile instead of going home where it is SAFE.

Okay you go smack a thug in the face, then run into your house and lock the door and see how long it takes him to just wander off...

Don't mind the smashing sound from the other room, of course.
