Thread: Am I the only one that is glad urban planner is gone?

Is anyone else with me on this one? I think that urban planner was a kick in the face, it turned a master architect into a non-elite profession... Now that we have been told that we (Architects) will be building all of the player city structures what do you all think? Please do not flame - I just want to know.

As I've posted before on this subject, I am glad that Archs will have Urban Planner. I just don't have confidence that it will be implemented in a smooth, transparent and functional way. I hope it will be, but there is not much of a track record there... I don't blame the devs for that, the blame is in the hands of the people that charge my credit card every month for a game that is still in beta.

What I'd like to see is this:

The first small outpost should have a small shuttleport. The last metropolis should have a starport.

The first small outpost will not survive without a shuttleport (or mounts) unless it is very close to a major city. Who would want to run 8000 meters into the sands of tatooine to trade goods??? No vendors, no customers, no metropolis.

Architects should be employed by the city council, and part of the maintainance fee for the buildings should go to the architect who crafted them.

The buildings should not last forever without an infusion of parts.

It should take 1 part from every master crafting profession to make any building, and it should be rediculously expensive to make an outhouse, let alone a bank or a starport. This helps encourages commerce and trade, and keeps the number of player cities to a manageable number.

There are several of us who will have a metropolis very soon, just based on the size of our guilds, and the number of our friends. But if I have to build without a shuttleport, I'll just pack up my bags and move to town. Maybe go be a commando like everyone else.

I WISH THE DEVELOPERS LUCK!!! Anything of this magnitude will not make everyone happy, or even someone happy.. it will likely just add more work for an already overworked group of people.

Wait... UP is gone? When did this happen? I've been doing Armorsmithing to kill time until UP was released, but now I can keep those skill points?

What else was said about player cities?

When did they axe Urban Planner? I don't re-call reading or hearing anything of the sort. Is it listed somewhere in a Dev post or something?

I hope it isn't gone either. I am looking forward to the prospects of fountains, gazebos, streetlights, paved streets, shuttleport, cloning center. etc. I think that as the guilds make a metropolis that places like Theed and other large npc cities should start to drop off the planet and we the players take over every aspect of the game. The devs need to hurry though. It is getting boring as an architect that solely likes to build and decorate.

I found the log of the Dev chat that was not too long ago and they mentioned they are still debating whether Urban Planner will be implemented or just add the schematics into the Architect profession.

I am quite curious as to what they will decide.

Considering that with the release of player cities they have not listed UP as a new Profession and a comment by Q regarding that stated that the current plans are to put UP skematics in Architect, it can be safely assumed that UP is scraped at least for initial release of cities.

Yes I'm unhappy about it. I geared my skill points to leave room for UP, now I'm going master merchant instead. My hope is that they at least make all the structures Master Architect only to reward those of us that have commited to mastering the profession rather than the part time 1 or 2 tree folks.

I'm very glad that they are working it into the architect tree. My combat skills help break up the monotony of being an architect.Ihighly doubt that I would have giventhem up to be a Urban Planner.
