Sorry if this sounds noob but i am new to crafting professions, when it says needs similar items does this mean i can make them but need to use the same resources or have to be factory made???

Only if it say Identical Items From A Factory Crate do you need factory made ones with the same serial number.

If it says similar, they can be hand-made or factory made, with same or different serial numbers.
