Thread: Industrialist EXP?

After feeding my factory with the resources for about 30 structural modules, I made a trip to town. I came back and noticed that I only got 1800 or so structure crafting experience. I figured my factory stopped for an unknown reason, which it is apt to do. However, when I got back, I found that all 31 had been produced successfully, and I simply was screwed out of a good 18k structure EXP.

What I did have, however, was 510 points of Industrialist experience now listed. The only description offered by the hover menu was "Industrialist." It has no use from what I can see. Is this residual from the original Miner profession?

You or someone else has to remain in sight of your factory for you to get the xp.

Industrialist xp is a left over from the removed industrialist profession, that someday will probably be removed when they get around to fixing minor bugs.

dirril, it is my personal theory that industrialist xp will be required for the eventual industrialist profession...the profesion that branches off form architect. it will include the Player Cities schematics, cantina, med center, starpor,t coning facility. It will also finish off the structure assemply and experimentation points. I furhter believe it will include new furniture, such as the data terms we see in the startport etc. this is ALL speculation.

thank you.

Architects can already make data terminals.

Also, you were "screwed" out of that structure exp because you were probably too far away from the factory. How close do you have to be? Who knows, you get a different answer from everyone. The only thing everyone knows for sure is that you don't get exp if you're not online.

Actually someone (don't remember who, sorry) posted a real nice theory on factory xp and how it works. It goes like this:

Every static object in the game is only drawn when a player is within a certain distance from it. This includes harvesters, houses and factories. This is why you see objects fade in when you get near them even though you see the terrain for a much greater distance than those objects.

This relates to factory xp in the following way. Factories only give xp when they are drawn on someone's screen. It doesn't necessarily have to be YOUR screen. This is why there are reports of xp at varying distances.

I know that my house is 239m from my factory and I get XP while inside my house. Which is a good thing after I've triggered two nests of sludge panthers between them.

I posted this earlier on the general forum, but no one seemed to know. Anyone here know what "industrialist" experience is, why I'm accumulating it, and what it's used for?

It is for a Profession that was pulled during Beta - called (oddly enough) the Industrialist. And Industrialist is to Factories what a Miner is to Harvesters. Both were deemed "boring" and stricken from the game. I guess they made an oversight when the left the Industrialist XP in the game.

Thanks. It's a shame they couldnt have given merchants some of the industrialist skills, right now we're hurting for truly beneficial stuff.

I'm up to 135k Industrialist XP. I need to find a trainer!
