Thread: Creating wall modules with a structure factory
I attempted my first use of this to try nad build some heavy mineral harvesters. They require 6identical wall modules from a factory.
So I create my 60 structural modules (bricks) out of the same type of ore and steel. I load em in the factory (one by one makes it time consuming. is there no quick way to do this?) and added the additional ore and steel that a wall module requires. 2 resources.
Upon checking the needed resources list at the factory im told i need an additional 2 resources. one of these i never used in making and of the bricks?
Im confused as i dont understand why i need additional resource in there of a specific name when i only used 2 type to craft the bricks?
Anyone help out please?

You made it to Installation 4 and never built a wall?
A wall requires 10 structure modules, 200 units of ore and 300 units of metal.
Also you will need an additional 10 stucture modules and 200 ore and 300 metal to make a schematic...wait a minute.
How does your Factory know to tell you you need the two additional resources if you never made a wall schematic? If you did make the schematic then you should already know the additional resources you need over the 60 structure modules.
I am sorry but I had a difficult time understanding the problem. You have a wall schematic, right? What name does it say you require for the ore and for the metal? Are those the same names on the materialsyou put in the factory? You had 6 times the amounts listed on the schematic?
You might just want to take those modules our of the factory and make single walls with them. Sounds like you made each structure mod manually and not in the factory, so they wont work factory producing walls. If you did make the structure mods in the factory and dont have a wall schematic, you are also in trouble, cause you will burn 10 to make the schematic, which will only leave you with 5 walls.
Its not difficult, but you have to do a little planning to make this stuff easy. Lets say there are no schematics in the datapad and you need 6 walls. 6 walls X 10 mods = 60 BUT you need to make an extra 10 for the wall schematic. So you will need 14k ore and 3500 metal to make your 70 mods + you will need 200 ore and 50 metal to make a schematic for the structure mod itself. So make your schematic, feed your factory, and make 70 structure mods first.
When you get your crate of structure modules, they come in a crate and you have to manually pull them out. There is no easy way for this unfortunately. Anyway, take 10 plus the ore and metal you need for a wall and make a wall schematic. Then you have 60 structure mods remaining, feed the factory with the mods (1 by 1), put in the 6X ore and metal required for the wall, and set that factory off again. Voila! 6 identical walls.
I have miscalculated and put too little ore in a factory to make the 6 identical walls needed for a heavy installation. I get the email '5 walls were created'. Dont fret! What I did was put the missing ore in and start again and the next wall went right into the crate. So long as you are running the same schematic, the walls will come out identical. I do recall I had a problem getting the wall out of the crate, but I dont know if that was a crate bug or if re-running the process caused a problem, but I just moved the crate into the factory input hopper, then back into my inventory, and the wall became available.
Its about 10X the resource to go from medium to heavy mineral harvester, and with that goes probably 10X the pre-planning. Where the mediums are only a couple combines from being as easy as a personal mineral extractor, the heavys require a ton of resource (~28k) and mostly identical components. What I did was make a good sized crate of ore mining units, structure modules and generator turbines, and then every time I accumulated enough resource for 6 walls, I would punch out 6 and finish the heavy.

You do NOT have to have identical components to make something in a factory if you made the schematic using the mis-matched components. I have made tons of walls in my factory using hand-made structure modules. The only thing you have to keep the same is the 200 ore and the 300 steel required by the wall itself, those have to be the same as in the schematic.
I believe what the original poster is talking about is the "ount" at the bottom. If you click the ingredients needed button, it will you show what is needed like this:
Duhashafras (steel name) - 300
Favegnugin (ore name) - 200
ount - 998
That ount is a bug, it's supposed to be the number of uses the schematic has left. Probably just "count" messed up.
Thanks for that correction Kriterian, I was only assumming that you had to use identical structure mods because the factory schematic had a serial number next to the structure mod, so I thought they all had to be identical, and it was something that I didnt want to mess around with in case it didnt work.
You know what they say about assumming....
But thats great news! Building these heavies will go a bit faster since I have been overcomplicating them all this time.

No, that's not necessary an applicable rule. Power Core Units (sorry called them Power Conditioners above)only require one Generator Turbine, one Energy Distributor and one Power Conditioner. It doesn't specify similar or identical because it only requires one of each. However, any schematic made to produce PCU's in a factory will always store the serial numbers for the components.
Note that I said "a number of similar components". If it doesn't require a number of components (similar or otherwise), then it will store the serial number of the component used to make the schematic.

This is actually a myth. The only thing that matters is whether theblueprint (the base schematic)is set to store serial numbers or not for it's factory schematics. AFAIK, wall modules are actually the onlyitem using crafted subcomponentsthat doesn't store serial numbers which is what bred this rumor.For wall modules, you can make the schematic with factory made structure modules and still be able to use hand crafted structure modules or factory made structure modules with a different serial numberin the wall run because the schematic isn't saved with serial numbers regardless.
On the other hand, for a Power Conditioner or Manufacturing Mechanism, the serial number is always stored regardless of how the components were made. So you have to use the same serial numbers in the factory run as you do for the schematic. If you try to make a Power Conditioner schematic using hand crafted components, it'll expect that exact same serial number in the factory run and so in the factory run, it'll eat the resources any any compatible components until it runs out of serially matching components.
It's because of this myth that people get to Master, try to make their first PCschematic using hand crafted components thinking they can get away with hand crafted pieces for the factory run, and then call it a bug when their resources and components get eaten not realizing that the serial numbers were stored in the schematic.
It's easy to test this... just make a schematic and look at it in your datapad. You'll see the serial number there next to the component name if it stores it (you'll also see the serial number if you do a "list" at the factory)
