Thread: A small question on Quality, and does it really matter...
I doubt hopper size has any bearing for most people. Its not likely people are going to leave their harvesters sitting there for more than a few days. And during that time, even on a 100% spot you couldn't fill the hoppers of mediums.
This is not to say that people don't appreciate a larger hopper.
As of right now (on Lowca), getting decent quality resources is pretty tough so I use the metals and ore that I have and grind out and focus on shock resistance, heat resistance and unit toughness (shock resistance is OK at 600 and up but lowers hopper %).
Quite plainly, hopper size is of no importance at all. The risk of essentially wasting a perfectly good BER 10/13 harv to a crit fail on hoppre size is far too great.
I assume every one of us runs at least some of our own harvs. How many times have you emptied a harv to find that it was 100% full? Personally, I just did for the first time yesterday. I hada BER 10 medium, on an 85% conc, that had been sitting there for 5 days, because I was out of town. That's what it took to fill the hopper. All of my heavies were at about 50%.
If someone came back to me complaining about hopper size (which has never, ever happened), I'd encourage them to look into a heavy. Filling the hopper of a heavy is darned near impossible, as the spawn usually runs out before the hopper could fill up.
I've sold plenty of harvesters and I don't recall a single time that someone asked fora larger hopper size or a hopper size of a specific size. I've sold tons of harvesters in person and not had them ask at all about hopper size nor comment on it. That tells me that customers don't really care.
I try to throw 1-2 points of experiment into hopper size if I've got it to spare but I really don't sweat it.

I have to disagree and say that on certain ranges, I have had people care a lot about hopper sizes. The ones that people seem to care about are Floras, Waters, Chems and Fusions.
It seems that with each of these, the chances of finding a >95% spot is significantly higher than with minerals. One the best sellers I have ever had are the large hopper sized BER13 High Cap Floras, mainly owing to most floras hanging around anywhere up to 17 days (on a high OQ/PE/FL Talusian Berries - thats the longest spawn I have ever seen to date). The multi-site mining guys seem to like them as it cuts down on their travel costs and if they can get an extra day or two out of their units, it means that have extra time to do something else.
Also, on Valcyn we are seeing longer spawn times as well in general - for example we just had an Ionite Intrusive ore that was around for 10 days!! -and some steels that have been around for 9 days.
I agree with most of the posters. None of my customers ask about hopper size. Because people have vehicles and player-city shuttles, it's very easy to check harvesters every few days, even in remote areas.
