I'm not a math guy, but I did generate some data. Can you (the architect community) argue about what it means? I'm sure a lot can be learned about the crafting system mechanics by looking at the values.
I made 2 batches of crafting station subcomponents, then put them together in various combinations. All the stations and components were experimented on till I couldn't change experimental efficiency anymore. I did not touch durability.
I made "good" subcomponents using these materials:
Resource______OQ CD Type
wimeate_______917363Steel
volo__________232773Copper
dimowadism____800 Low Grade Ore
trillokaium___717 Polymer
duronikeoeide_651 Inert Gas
*I used wimeate for all "metal" and volo in the final combine.

I made "bad" subcomponents using these materials:
Resource____________OQCD Type
duridetohecsis______643356Steel
osoemeoite__________878666Copper
omnitrilaneapleoate_120 Inert Gas
eiarecee____________626 Polymer
these_______________433 Low Grade Ore
*I used durideetohecsis for all "metal" and volo (see above) in the final combine.
**I used the DSC's from the previous "good" section because I'm not a DE and didn't want to hassle with getting another schematic.

Finally, I did a few combines using osoemeoite for reference

I still have the test stations, and all the schematics, and enough of the resources to do more testing, if this isn't enough.
Thanks,

Some time ago someone put out an Excel sheet named 'Crafting Assistant' that has formulas for crafting station and harvester ratings based on the quality of the materials you use. It seemed to work all right.
I think the formulas they used are what you're heading towards.

From looking at your results it has helped me finally nail down the formulas used to calculate crafting station FRs.
Base value is (45*CD%)-30
Then each sub component block gives you (Quality-50)/10
with each sub component of the Micro Sensor Suite also giving the same.
But only the first item dropped into the slot is used to calculate this so you can mix good and bad items.
Total these up to get your final value.
From a build I did myself:
Copper with CD of 998 used for final mix gives base of 14.91
Control Units at 100 Quality give +5
Droid Storage at 99 Quality give +4.9
Micro Sensors at 88 Quality give +3.8 and with all sub components inside at 100 Quality to give another +15
This totals up to FR of 43.61 which tallys with my actual build.
Thanks for the data so I could finally get this tied down.
One thing to note is that using sub components under 50% actually drops the overall rating.
