Thread: What do control units and sensor suites add to crafting stations?
I made a crafting station last night using those 2 optional components and the result was a +7.3 station, when I had already made +7.8 stations with no optional components. I was expecting them to add to its bonus, plus I am not even remotely close to +40 I have been hearing people make. Any tips? Thanks!

Mainly you need to make sure to use high quality materials for each item and then experiment them all. I've used just the controler and micro sensor and gotten around +19 for a station using decent 951 conductivity copper and I just bought the subcomponents so I don't know how good they were.
For the subcomponents the Overall Quality is the important trait (if memory serves) and for the crafting station final construction the Conductivity is key.
Also be aware that making stations uses your Artisan experimentation skill. So if you don't have Master Artisan then your experimentation results might not be as high as possible.
Theres a thread or two around somewhere in this forum with recipes that people have used to make stations >40 rating. I'm sure those will have some good info too.
You know I had a R4 droid made for me that was made for structure and furniture crafting, and using 2 tools alternately at +12.5 each, along with the droidin lieu of a crafting station, I have only about a7% crit failrate. None on final product yet. I'm not sure what the rate is on the droid itself, I never asked and haven't seen the DE on the server since, but it must be pretty good. Maybe I've just gotten lucky because the resources as of late have had pretty crappy stats all the way around.
The funny thing is I found some aluminum on the bazaar with on OQ of 970, and had more crit fails than using aluminum with an OQ of 367. Go figure.
OK, just to answer a few questions definitavely on this subject:
With 994 Conductivity copper, and full success with experimentation, the crafting tool gets to ~14.7. I imagine the theoretical limit is 15 on tools.
On stations, just using 994 cond copper, and 99% experimentation, you get almost the same exact number, about 14.7
If you add control units that were experimented up to 96% (some have reached 99%, but Tarquinas does not have any 999 OQ resources), and micro sensor suites, which I have only personally gotten to 86%, you can hit over +36.
I understand that adding some 99% experimented droid storage modules, you can add 2-4 more points, although I have not found a DE yet that can or will provide these for me, so I cannot personally confirm the increase, although to get above 40, it is a requirement to have the DSC's.
The key with the micro sensor suites is the metals, including the steel, where 33% is determined by conductivity and 66% is determined by overall quality. The highest MSS I have seen is 90%, and I theorize that you cant go too much higher since almost 10 units of resources do not have a conductivity, which is a requirement. This is speculation though.
The key is making quality subcomponents, even though they do not show up as a stated quality. I do not think that the durability has anything to do with anything, so only experiment the effectiveness. If you have subcomponents that came out 20-50%, the station will actually suffer for it. If you cannot make good components, then dont use them at all. The Micro Sensor suite requires 2 subcomponents and an optional component. I have found that I can get an 86% out of them whether I use good or bad subcomponents. However, there is speculation that even if you reach 86% with the MSS, there is still a hidden quality that makes a difference in the stations final assembly that relates directly to what you put in to the MSS. Some people are seeing a .1 to .4 difference in the station using identical control units, and the same percentage MSS's, but different grades of GP modules and such in the MSS. I have not conformed this personally.
The closest us architects can come to making our profession into the same artform that the armorsmiths and weaponsmiths get, is the crafting station. There is some satisfaction in making a good station, and finding a slightly better resource to make a subcomponent out of, and getting a +.3 more out of a station is actually rewarding. Unfortunately, the architects dont benefit from a better station, it seems.

99% Droid SC can add up to 5.0 points to the final rating.
Rather than looking for a DE to do this for me, I got novice DE and did it myself. The Droid SC uses artisan experimentation points.
