Thread: Structure Idea: Arena

This was originally posted from the Discussion board on a topic about player cities. This would be a neat addition as an Architect Schematic aside from player cities, though too.

Having an arena as a player city structure would be cool (for duels). It could be coded exactly like a battlefield, and have a lower area and an upper area. The lower area is the arena floor. When you enter the arena floor (this area has a separate /ban and /privacy feature, so the structure owner can make it accessible to the combatants only at the time of the event) you have to declare a side: side1, or side 2 (possibly allow the sturcture owner/admin to create up to X sides, use 2 as default). That way, side 1 & 2 can actually be factions in and of themselves, so you don't have to recode the battlefield engine (once it works), just rename the opposing sides (just for 2 side arenas, if more sides, that would likely need more work), but the faction points you get for those sides really wont matter, you only join the side while you declare upon entering that arena, so there is no default (like drall v. corsec battlefields). When you die in the Arena, you go to the cloning ctr (maybe even have one inside the Arena, but away from the arena floor?) and are automatically removed from the access list for the arena floor until the Admin puts you back on.

The upper area is for general seating. This is simply a long/high slightly inclined ramp that is raised above the arena floor and can look into it like a balcony, but not affect it (also like a balcony).

This would also be a GREAT merchant structure, for vendors and for entrance fees. It would also be nice if Architects got 'add-on' deeds that added-on to an existing structure. Add-ons for this could easily include all the myriad of combat things (like turrets), but also a Cantina ring (upper level, circle on the exterior of the building, access from within), and personal rooms in the basement. Actually , this would probalby be better as mutliple sizes for the arena: small, medium (basement level living quarters), large (built-in med ctr, lower floor), and Deluxe (upper level Cantina Ring, and lower level cloning ctr, next to med ctr).

Would like to hear thoughts from the Architect community. Thank you.

I'd drop my houses to put one up if I had to. Hell, I'd run around for months gathering the resources to make one. That's one of the most fun ideas I've heard on any of these forums. I've always imagined a place where players can go to socialize other than a cantina, and to watch people maul each other while talking to a bud you haven't seen in a while just sounds too appealing.

I absolutely LOVE this idea! It is an excellent way to add a little fun and punch into the economy, and since these arenas could be placed in and around cities it would possibly also give hardcore PVP'ers a place to play without camping mission terminals and fighting in the streets. I think anything granting more diversification into architect is a good thing. Please by all means let's have this new toy

If you guys like it, keep it bumped and let your Correspondant know (PM's). I'm not an architect, and I'm only a part-time crafters to a small degree, so I'll leave it to you guys to take from here. Thanks for the positive responses.

I'd completely forgotten what I wanted to say on that, seems pretty obvious, but since no one else said it... Entry Fees you get at Business 1of artisan could come in handy here. Hell, I'd run around for months to find the resources, give up my hosues to place it, THEN I'd pay a cover charge to get in my own building if I had to. I love this idea.

This is a great idea Rowl. When the most ambitious cities set up they will most likely be farther out from known civilization due to the desire to have the largest radius. What better way to draw people to your city then the oldRoman Coliseum?

Come to think of it, what other buildings did ancient civilizations have that drew people to them?

Open market places would be nice, where citizens could add a vendor to a real life bazaar....

Very wonderful idea :-)

and maybe we can do bets on the people fighting and such :-)

and the cloning center idea is very good :-) btw what would you people think of moving cloning centres for combat? made by an architect and that can be put up like a deed somewhere :-)
