Thread: Question about resource prices

I got into architect late this past Saturday night. I have blown about a million credits since my small fleet of crappy harvesters was just not getting me enough resources, and I am about half way to master. I have sold 40 walls so far to make back a bit of cash, and I think now that I can make heavies (no where near BER13 I think) I can mine my own resources and not spend the last of my cash.

My question however is this. I am on Lowca. On the trade boards I saw resources, ore and steel some others, going in bulk auctions with people bidding up to 6cpu.

What sells on the market for 6 cpu? I heard Statues and Fountains sell well. "Well" is 15k per statue (5cpu) and like 7500 for fountains (just over 4cpu).

Walls are going max 6k (2cpu). I did not total up the resource cost on heavy harvesters but the top ones are going about 125-150k. What is that maybe 3-4 cpu?

I see people doing anything to sell houses... who knows if they are even making a profit?

My question is if people are willing to pay 6cpu to by Ore... what is it we can sell to make a profit at that cost?

I assume that you are using BER4 personals until you can get higher rated mediums and heavies?

As an architect you can't make a living buying ore at those prices at all.

You can make a living buying some ore from dedicated miners at lower prices than that.

In general, I make sure that I'm mining most / all of my own ore and then if I have to buy aluminum or copper to make generator turbines (for example) I don't go broke.

I'm quite happily self-funding so far. Try Furniture items. Although not as fast xp-wise, people seem much less leery of paying anything up to 10cpu on items with a small total pricetag. If you tried for 10cpu on a PA Hall or Medium House, you'd get laughed at, but for some reason people don't count the cost quite as much for smaller things.

By smaller, of course, I mean resource-wise. You can easily load up a full 24 Bazzar slots every day from the output of just two reasonably placed Metal PMEs, and still have spare left for real grinding stuff...walls, etc.

The only downside to Furniture is the Hide requirements for the more interesting stuff. This does seem to be 6+ cpu to buy in, so either upwardly adjust your finished prices, or take up Scouting and harvest your own. (If you're harvesting your own metals though, at 0.2/0.3cpu, that side offsets the cost of Hide.)

edit: Also, Furniture carries the +Assembly stats, which is very useful for later on when you start on the really big stuff.

I've had good luck finding some dedicated hunters who drop large stacks of hides off on my bazaar for 3-4 cpu. They like having a single stop.

I've negotiated a deal with a Scout friend; gimme all the hide, and I'll pay for anything else you need. Seem to be running at a profit so far; scouts don't need much upkeep

Try for that kind of deal if you can. A regular income is a rare thing for outdoors types and it'll help you both.

Actually just before I was an architect I was a master Ranger. I wanted to finish it off just to do it. I used tons of hide making camps think I might have like 2k of it laying around. I have master scout still and some ranger but I cant kill anything big anymore to get enormous amounts of hide (was MBH as well).

Furniture eh? And if its cheap enough I can fit it on the bazaar since I have no vendor. Interesting I was so worried about walls and xp I didn't think about that I will make some tonight.

I too am mining my own I borrowed 7 lots from a friend 2 weeks ago got 2 ber8 wind gens, and some really bad (but cheap!) PEM (mostly like 2 maybe 1 that is 4). I made my own mediums the other day with what i thought was adeuqate materials mostly 800-900 of the important stats and best I could do with 2 levels of experimentation (construction?) was BER6.

Now I maxxed construction and installations so I hope by tonight i can set up a factory and make at least ber10 heavies so yea I will mine my own stuff.... its just that when i saw people on the trade boards auctioning off 50k of ore and the bid went to 6cpu i was wondering why someone would pay so much when most items seems to go in the 4-5 cpu range. Maybe its all for furniture?

Thanks again for the advice!

Yep ber7 is about the best you can do at 2 lvls of experimentation...at three, I started getting 8's, and it goes up nicely from there.
