The experiment % is the thing that matters. The max for the BER rating is 6 but you can hit that pretty easy.
Shoot for high 90%'s in your experimentation.

Ber 6 on ore mining units, and get it to 90% or higher percentage....oops Pawlin answered it but i wanted to answer it too =P

Ok, I must be missing something. I can only get BER5 with great resources and 'good success' on experimentation. Why is this? And if I have 2 BER6 OMU's how can I get an Extractor with BER13?

Check the stickied threads (start with the FAQ).
In a nutshell, you can only make max BER harvesters (BER10 mediums and BER13 heavies) by the following:
- use *great* metal and ore (HR/SR/UT all over 900 - the higher the better) for the "mining component" and "final assembly" (NOT walls, gen turbs, etc)
- experiment the "mining component" (Ore Mining Unit, Harvesting Mechanism, Fluidic Drilling Pump, etc) as high as you possibly can - typically you must get it over 90% and you'll only do that with "great" and "amazing" results
- experiment the final assembly high enough to reach max BER and then put the other points into the hopper - if you got your mining component into the 90s, then your final assembly may hit max BER in the 80s

If you only get a 'good success' then you won't get the results you need. Anything less than a 'great success' is not good enough to get maximum stats.
If those 2 OMU's you made were made by hand then you won't be able to use them in a heavy mineral extractor. You need to have 'identical' parts which means that they are made by a factory. THe schematic will say if the parts required must be identical or 'similar'. Similar parts can be made by hand.
