Thread: Old Heavy Harvsters are worthless now!

I do not include fusion, but all heavy Mineral, Gas, Chemical and Water harvesters are worth nothing at all.

Why? Because we can make medium harvesters with extraction rates of 7! That's right, a medium harvester can extract at the exact same rate as the old heavy harvesters, and the maintenance and power requirements are lower.

If you could buy a medium for 30k even (they should go for 15k or so soon), how much would you pay for a harvester that extracted at the same rate, but charged you an extra 600 power and 720 credits every day?

IMHO the answer is ZERO!

Why buy a heavy, even for 10k,and pay extra maintenance and power when the new mediums will get you the exactly thesame resources out of the ground and cost you less? You'd use up the 10k in just a few days, and pay extra forever after that.

I agree that this is going to be a serious problem if the system is left with the current overlap. Since I own a small cargo freighter of "Old" deeds, I'm feeling the pain.

It can't stay this way.

At 20k for a medium mineral, and valuing power at just 1cr per, it costs you 720+600 credits per day to keep you heavy and run it instead of buying a medium.

At 1320 per day you'd pay for the medium in just 15 days if you destroyed your heavy harvester deed.

It' can't stay this way.

It wont.. I will bet cold hard cash all exp harvs will revert to original rates when the new comps for hvy's are released.

The Devs have said that in the new patch a great medium could be as good as a crappy hvy.. weather this refers to cost per unit mined or overall extract rate is unknown..

my 2 cents...

It's only going to be this way if we (as architects) make it this way. And what I mean is charging less for a rate 7 medium than for a rate 7 heavy. Oh and don't forget selling to people who will always want the biggest just because it's the biggest.

The problem will be in granfathering all existing harvestors to the "crappy" baseling rather than a more average middle. Right not, all the "Old" harvestors are rock bottom garbage made with crap material.

Omdatha - I really don't understand why so many people assume that "we" make things this that or the other. The market in SWG may be a bit crude, but it's still a market, and prices are determined by market forces, not "us" or "we".

The fact is that at any rational price for mediums(20k for a 3500 resource medium is unsustainably high, btw), heavies are utterly without value now.

"We" can't change that, "we" don't simply chooseprices, no matter how much people would like to believe that "we" do.

[Ask yourself: if I can make A) 50k profit on a few items, or makeB) 100k total profit selling more itemsat a lower price, which will happen? A few guys trying for A just means that the guys trying for B have an easier time, and still end up richer. It's a market, one architect complaining about another architect getting rich by selling more at a lower price is really just pointless, but you see it all the time. There is no "we".]

The old larges aren't worthless yet! Do not start giving them away or destrying them yet! The extraction ratesshould be fixed. I am not making any equipment for sale until this is settled. I am hoping that when the devs do implement the change, they realize that the best extraction rate of a medium should never surpass a basic large. Any large harvester should be an upgrade, some better than others and the costs will reflect it. Having uber mediums will make every yahoo go out and become a miner competing for mining areas.

I agree, don't go destroying these. As I said, its can't stay this way.

However, my point is that if it did stay this way, then all heavies would be worth nothing. No matter what the price of mediums, you pretty quickly would save the cost of the medium by buyinga rate 7medium and destroying the old rate 7heavy.

It can stay this way because the comparison isn't between new mediums and old heavies, it's between new mediums and new heavies. It's just as easy to experiment up a heavy as a medium. Old harvesters will be outdated, I say good, let the miners buy new harvesters.

Really? let the miner's buy new harvester's? Ok, I hope your not one of my customer's on Lowca, if you are, your price on ore just went up to 6 cpu from it's 2cpu price since you guys are charging from 200k to 500k credits for the new heavies. You want to screw me over, I'll screw you over back, don't worry about it.

First off, give them time to fix the problems/bugs they created with the last couple of patches. I expect that the bugged harvesters with 5K storage capacity etc. will be fixed. Second off, I wouldn't consider an old heavy worthless if it still works. I would expect the price of a experimented medium to be much higher than a old heavy. Guess what, this is a chance for architects to raise prices instead of getting the resource value for items. We now have to worry about resource quality and the time invested in experimenting all the subcomponents and the end product. As long as this opportunity is used to adjust prices, the entire economy will benefit from it. My guess is that most "undercutters" are just trying to get a fat bank account so they can swap over to a different profession, I could be wrong but, I know a few that have retired already. Even if we keep the same base rate we were using previously and charged say...10K per each extraction rate over the original base and 1cr/unit of extra storage space the prices would be a little more in line with what they should be. I don't see the prices ever meeting those of armorsmiths or weaponsmiths due to the rare resources they use but, I do them being higher than what they are. This is a golden opportunity for architects. Don't blow it.

Ultimately the problem as we've seen already on these boards is that some people won't raise their prices... others will raise them a little and others will raise them a lot.... and after a short boom (maybe) pricing will fall back to prepatch days. This, of course, is in the hands of the architects, but realistically, it will end up this way.

Oh, and Bolanos? Nice attitude. I don't think anyone here is making the changes to the game. We're simply going with whats handed to us. If it means miners need new equipment to stay on the cutting edge, so be it, but at the same time, no one is forcing you to buy the new harvesters, your old ones will work just fine.
