Thread: Has the rate of extraction on harvesters changed?

I was under the impression that harvesters extracted at this rate: (Base Rate * Density) * 100 for an hour.

This should net me about 22k units in a day for a rate 10 medium harv on a 94.4% spot.
(10 * .944) * 100 = 944/hour = 22656/day

For the last 2 days, I have been seeing significantly less resources in my hopper than I expected, so I timed the rate of extraction. I am now seeing this rate: (Base Rate * Density) for each minute.

This nets me far less for a rate 10 medium harv on a 94.4% spot.
(10 * .944) = 566/hour = 13593/day

Now I may have had it wrong all long, but I could have sworn I worked this out before. So if you could, please let me know if any of you have noticed this chage too, or am I just going crazy? hehe

I've always calculated it as:

Actual Extraction Rate * 24 * 60 to get my daily totals. Actual extraction rate is the Max rate * the % density. Also know that it doesn't harvest when the servers are down for maintenance, so you lose that hour or so that they're down.

All that said, I have experienced bugs where harvesters have mysteriously turned themselves off, or have not harvested during the time between checks. But it's been soooo few and far between, and have experienced bugs for my favor where it doesn't use up energy or maintenance credits between my vists, but does extract still.

I have a question that is sorta on topic. I made Installation 2 today and made my first Med Harvester.. I was very excited that I was finally able to do this, because I never had a medium harvester before and was looking forward to extracting more resources per day..... POW.. realit set in.. I think..

All my small harvesters are at an extraction rate of 4, costing 30/hr...... The medium one I just made today, costing me many more resources, with a good experimentation luck got me a medium UP to 4, when it's original starting extraction was 3.. at a cost of 60/hr.... WHAT THE HELL? Have I missed something here.. An elite made medium harvester cost more per resource extracted then a low leverl Artisan small one does.. The way I see it, is that unless you have a good portion of your experimental branch filled and able to get the extraction rate up to 8 or higher, medium harvy's are a waste of time.. This just does NOT make sense at all

I’m aware of the extraction rate to be:

Actual rate = the extraction per min.

(Actual rate x 60) = extraction per hour.

(Actual rate x 60) x 24 = extraction per day.

So your BER 10 on 94.4% spot would produce about: 9units per min, 564 per hour and 13,536units per day. That’s about what you been getting.

In order to get better harvesters you need to use good resources most of the components and in the final construction. You also experiment on them mining unit will also contribute greatly on the final BER.

If your looking for more clues how to make better, just keep searching this forum, as several of us have posted on that topic already. They might be a few pages back as they keep getting pushed father and father by all the worthlessthreads about how to grind this profession the fastest.

Cronus00, I imagine that your biggest problem is that you havetoo fewexperimentation points to make a good medium harvester at this point. Medium harvester can get up to a 10 extraction rate, but you need to have a highly experimented light ore mining unit, and high experimentation on the final combine. When I say high, I mean in the 80's and 90's, which means it is difficult to do without being a master.

Thanks for the replies. It would seem my calculations were wrong all along. I just didn't notice it until I got a hold of the rate 10's.

An elite is the Master Architect, a noivce at installations 2 is still a novice.

Makes perfect sense, someone learning a profession should be able to make as good as someone who has mastered it. Otherwise every novice would flooded the market with ber 10 harvesters for 6k.

I combine it a bit to be

% * rate * 1440 = resources/day

1440 = minutes in a day = 60*24

You should not take the bare % from the survey tool or the harvester as the density. The extractor will tell you the exact pull rate since the resource might actually be something like 94.5% not 94.

So usually I look at the stated rate from the harvester and multiply that by 1440.

I also use the following estimate for total pull

stated rate * 1440 * number of extractors * 5 days = total pull for that field

I use 5 days because I almost never have less than a 5 day run so that gives me a worst case estimate. Anything above that is gravy.

Actually not.. In fact there has been an ongoing discussion as to how experimental points are used, and many crafters feel as I do on this topic.. We aren't saying that every Novice should be able to make as many good medium harvesters as masters, but what we are saying is that a novice should have a CHANCE to make a 10 medium, however he will fail many more times then a master would..

One example is this is harvesters between small and large.. Currently as a Master Artisan I can make small harvesters with BER of 4 with easy, while the best BER I can make with mediums are 4.. Why would anyone in their right mind every used a novice medium harvy, when small ones are much better because of the cost in upkeep.. The only way to justify the upkeep cost is to have mediumsis BER of 8 or higher.. The only way you are ever going to get that high of number is to get to skill up to level 4 in contruction.. Anything short of that will not give you enough experimental points... Reguardless what profession you are striving for, the experimental values will effect everyone..

Striving to be a master at any crafting profession should reward one with more schematics, and a higher % of sucess.. NOT give you a sure lock on all products within the skill tree.. Why have schematic complexity when it has no real effect on the final outcome in quality of product.. Much like making things in EQ, after you achieve a certian skill level crafting become "trivial"..To attempt to convey to you another example, lets use the same havester example between small and large.. In my case I'm a novice arch. and master artisan.. If i construct a small harvester of a BER of 4, the odds ofme being sucessful is 90%.. A novice artisan should have the chance of making a small havry of BER 4, but his chance of success might only be 5%.. My advantage over him is that I didn't waste alot of resources to get the best, and I have more schematics at my disposal.. Now that I'm a novice archit, I should be allowed a chance to make a BER 10 medium harvester.. My chances might be 5%, and i'll waste alot of resources trying to do so.. Whereas a master architect will have a 90% chance of making the best.. Your advantage of being a Master is that you have more schematics and you are more consistant..

PS.. Two woodcrafters, one novice and one master, both should be able to make a high quality square box.. Granted the master might be able to do it faster and not waste the resources and attempt in doing so.. But the novice will never be able to make the ornate bookshelf, whereas the Master can
