Thread: In House Lighting

Has there ever been any word about new lighting options?

Personally I think that the interior of houses are far too bright (generic/corellia houses at least). Houses should start out dark, and you should have to add extra lighting options to brighten them up. After all, there are no windows on houses so where is this magical light coming from? I would much rather control my own lighting than to just be stuck with a house that I think is far too bright for my tastes.

Also, I would like to see some new lights that you can manually turn on or off. Currently the only lights that I know of that turn on and off are street lamps, and even then it's just coinciding with the day/night cycle so you have no control over it. Different colored lights (not street lamps) would also be a very nice addition so that you could even have lighted themes throughout your house. For example if you had a room that you were devoting to plants and "gardening" you could add a nice soft green light to the room to add some atmosphere. There also needs to be wall and ceiling (sp?)mounted lights that architects can build, especially once they add in the Z-axis movement so you can control the height of objects in your house besides just using stairs.

Another thing I would like to see is the ability to drop a few certain objects just outside your house, such as street lamps and signs without having to go through your mayor to drop it for you.

The notes for Patch 7 mention new lighting sources:

http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=Developers&message.id=25216

Lighting Objects: Players will now have many craftable light sources in the game that will have the true functionality of a light source. All of the current lamps styles in the game crafted from here on out will now have glow of light. Additionally, many new lamp styles have been added to the game and now players can also have candles. Players will be able to purchase architect crafted candles for players that will flicker and glow for about 2 weeks and then burn away. Lamps will also decay, but at a reduced rate

Yeah I just noticed that myself Pawlin.

Unfortuantely though the patch notes don't mention anything about manually turning lights on or off, and it doesent say anything about toning down the ambient light already in the game (with no other lighting source).

As it is now I wont bother with any lamps or other lighting because the ambient light in houses is already bright enough, adding more lights just makes it blinding for me. I'd like to be able to lower the level of the ambient lighting and add my own custom lighting to my house.

To me the general / Corellian houses seem fairly bright without additional light sources. I wouldn't say they are too bright but just about right. The Naboo houses seem a little dark.

It may depend a bit on how each of us has our graphics options set up.

The Naboo houses are too dark without additional lighting, the problem is that they are the only ones that are, so they are the only ones that will benefit from the new light sources. I think that the ambient light in the other houses should be turned down so that the new lights will be useful in them as well.

hehe in you in game options menu under graphics is a gamma setting.

Turn this down and everything gets darker. turn this up and all gets brighter again.

I hardly think that changing my settings every time I want to change from indoors to outdoors is a viable option

Besides, we're also talking about a way to encourage other people in the game to buy these things once they become available.

I can't help with the second, but for the first, my House is on Naboo so it is a bit dark, so I simply turn on my personal light source as a workaround.

I personally can wait for the lighting items for patch 7, just think we'll now be able to have a working desk lamp sitting on our desk with the option to move furniture up and down!

I think all building at the data terminal need light settings. High normal dim low and off.

Also in cantinas those huge ones need to havelike a disco option of flashing colors.

Also architect can become a great profesion if they give player cities more options!

Starport and other great things. The game was supposed to make us part of the great starwrs story I want my city to be as big as any other large city cause it doesn't hurt the starwras story! Give us large buildings with elevators that say only metros can have all our player cities look like rich little subburbs! we want aprtment buildings slums strports npcs everywhere!!!! Oh wait this is for Player ciites not architect but it will help out aritect cause we are not getting too much business any more. Buildgins apartment building with rent! Like it takes 8 lots and you can have people like inside and pay rent you know n00bs and stuff! or garges of cities! mayor can lplace them like civic strutures. Did I say starport also? well good for ciites and good for the architect proffesion!

The problem with that is after much tweaking I finally got my brightness/gamma/etc setting just perfect. I can now see just fine in the dark on most all planets without it being too bright outside in the day either.

I'm not going to mess that up just because the ambient light got cranked up in my house. Personally I think that your houses should be pretty dark (similar to the naboo houses as someone stated) inside without any additional player crafted lights. I mean after all, there are no windows so where is all this light coming from?

I wont be able to use the new lights that the devs are putting in the game simply because it would make my corellian house blindingly bright putting in more light to an already bright house.
