Thread: Am I being dumb with how I experiment?

I know this is probably personal preference but after yesterday I need to seriously look at how I am doing things. When I experiment I max out the points. I don't do them 1 or 2 at a time. Yesterday I was making heavies, I made9 in all

2 crit failed experimenting, didn't complete them

2 moderate successes first roll, came out to BER 11

2 good success first roll came out BER 12

3 great/amazing success (1 I used the 2 remaining points on the hopper, crit failed and it dropped to a 12)

I have never had such bad luck. Only 1/3 coming out BER 13, normaly I figure 8 of 10 come out BER 13. I used 92% effective OMU, iron with all stats over 900, steel with stats over 900.

Then I went on to make mediums, 4 of 5 came out BER 10. So I am blaming it on bad luck and not a change to crafting.

Someone mentioned that with the last patch something may have happened to crafting? I was expecting that for patch 7, but man it sucked yesterday.

Could have just been a spot of bad luck. I haven't seen any problems with crafing success lately and I throw
the max points into extraction first experiment.

I used to put max points in each time when I experimented, but I was having trouble with crit fails and bad luck a few months ago, so I started using 2 or 3 points at a time. I seemed to get better end results with that method, and crit fails don't seem to be as catastrophic. I've continued with this method, and I'm happy with the results I get.

Same thing here. And the best part about 2 at a time is that if you crit fail will be able to get the BER back up with better results on the next experimentation.

Something I've noticed is that right after a patch I get critical failures a heck of a lot more than usual...Has anyone else noticed this trend?

I did an experiment once when I was a master weaponsmith and making advanced stocks for rifles and heavy weapons. Advanced stocks have a nasty failure rate overall (has to be WAY higher than the claimed 5% especially after this trial run and test I did). I made 42 stocks back to back and experimented by putting maximum number of points into one area at once each time. Of all those 42 combines and experiments I got at least 1 critical failure every single time wether in combine or in experimentation. I then turned around and started combining them and then putting 3 points into experiment at a time. The result was out of about as many combines I only got about 3-4 that critical failed either in experimenting or combine. That convinced me very quickly that crafting is either bugged (which I still believe to this day, I did that test over 3 months ago) or I'm forced to only doing 2-3 points at a time or else I'll crit fail nearly every attempt. This problem, however, does NOT seem to affect Artisan. I rarely crit fail on artisan only items and I had almost no critical failures when I was doing chef, before or after mastering.

When I experiment I do a 3 point, 3 point, 2 point, 1 point.. I never use my last one on harvesters, 90% of the time I dont' use the last 2 points,, On Ore mining units and such I use the same point system, 3,3,2,1,1 and I don't crit fail too often but it's all luck in my opinion
