Thread: How do you deal with rude customers?

I’ve only been a master architect for a few days, and business is booming. The vast majority of my customers are appreciative and are happy with my product. Just like in real life though, you come across the occasional pain in the rear customer.

Some of the funnier things I’ve heard are: saying the price is too high, but also complaining that they can’t find anyone else to do the work at that price, telling me how much I should charge and how I should go about making my stuff, the old “place-an-order-but-never-pick” it up, claiming they can get it cheaper at their guild, but then coming back to me.

I’m sure you experienced guys can add some more to this list, but this gets me to my point. What do you do with guys that are instantly demanding and rude? Turn them down, or take the work anyway?

Unless I'm just really hard up for business, I tell them I'm not making them a freakin' thing because they have a serious attitude problem. Then I add them to the ignore list. I understand that they're paying us, but we're the ones providing our expertise. I'm always nice, understanding, and patient with my customers and I'm sure most of the other Architects here are, too. It's not too much to ask for them to treat us with the same sort of respect.

Most people just tell me they can't/won't do it for such and such a reason so I accept it and move onto another one in my search field or a friend.

I think that there is a difference between "rude" in a business dealing and "constantly abusive". Obviously if someone is being a jerk and interfering with me I'd do the /ignore thing.

But if someone says "oh, I can get it for half that down the street" I just say "that is a great price! At that price I may buy a few myself and resell them. Good luck."

If someone asks for a "standard" "liquid" item (e.g., harvester, house) and then doesn't pick it up, it doesn't bother me a bit - I put it on the vendor and someone else buys it.

If someone orders an "non-liquid" item (e.g., PA Hall, city structure) I get 50% of the price before I make it, so that has never been any issue.

Basically, I never "argue" with people. If they say "your prices are too high" I just tell them that they fit my business model and obviously my customers feel that they are getting value for their money.

Life is too short to even get excited about people who whine.

Credits are credits. Just be firm and stick to your pricing, if they don't like it. Just be firm on your pricing, if they buy, great, if not no big deal.

I only make to order for friends, regulars, or large orders of things that I should have had in stock anyway (which is not really making to order, just reserving from the next run), so I don't have a problem with any of those issues.

Pricing too high ? - Go buy somewhere else then, but feel free to come back and buy from me when you can't find what you want.

'JoeBlow' sells it cheaper - go buy from JoeBlow then

I need this and I need it now ! - Do I know you ? If so here is my price, here is how long it will take, let me know if you still want to order.

I need this and I need it now ! - Do I know you ? No I don't, I will be making those soon and placing them on my vendor, I will post on the forums when I have stocked so keep an eye out, it may be a day or 2 though.

I need this and I need it now ! - Do I know you ? No I don't, I do not take custom orders anymore, it prevents me from keeping my vendors fully stocked which is key to my business success. (this for items I do not normally stock)

Can I have a discount for buying 20 of these ? - There are 20 of those on my vendor, the price is as stated, I can sell those 20 today or tomorrow or next week at the regular price, I do not discount, everybody gets the same price.

Your prices are waaaaay lower than 'JoeBlow' - I am pleased to hear that, the price is not going up, this is the price I am happy with, please tell all your friends.

i dont even make anymore large structures, just on special request and then they have to accept my price or let it be.

with this rediculous low cpu on architect structures (beside harvesters) i am not willing to collect tonns resorces for lesser win then whn i sell the pure resource without hassle.

if someone dont like the price then i let him go. but if they accept i make the item as fast as posible and normally ppl are happy with it and thankful for good and fast treatment.

the "i can get it cheaper" tells are very silly and annoying, i am always friendly but if such coming up, then a simple "well, my price is this and if u can get it cheaper then go for it " is the response

many architects ruined the prices right after swg went life, i make my fair but reasonable pricings, but it has to be over it then what i get for pure resource sales on bazzar or why elase i should get the hassle? thats called simply business.

whoever sales under pure resource value is simply stupid and only gets more work for no real win

sometimes i have to tell the customer simply how many resources specific products take to make them and the answer is often "oh wow, i dodnt knew that. well then your price is totally fine"

imo the lack of knowledge how many resources we use and risk on combines should be mor popular, then alot ppl would understand pricings more.

i mean a small house which uses 3300 resources to make for 15k cr is actually cheap compared to a scout balster which takes what? 110 resources for 10k cr

think about it

PS: pricings are old discussion and will never end in an agreement, so just tsick to your prices, but think about it if its worth it what u do

Price is the biggest frustration I have with Architect.. These numpties that run around with a couple of million credits still find a need to complain about 50,000 credits for a factory.. Agh! I don't know how many times I hear "Man, your prices are too high".. .well, NO they aren't! I respect that a few items maybe overpriced, but it has reasons, i.e. a carry over cost from someone for resell, not sure what to price it at, or it just was a plain pain in the butt to make... I'm also done making any of the larger items if I don't have too.. Having to use 2 different factories stinks...

yes, call me a disgruntle'd Master Archy!
