Thread: What is the deal with all these critical failures?? esp for heavies

I finally decided to upgrade from medium 10Ber's to 13ber heavies. Since duralloy hadn't spawned on Tempestin a while, I used Kammris iron and Carbonite steel (970/923/953). More than enough to get 13ber; infact with 2 exp points left over if all combines turn out greats.

Anyway, I have 2 accounts so I go out to make 20 heavies. I used 95% OMUs and lubricating oil so no problems there.

On the final combines, I kept getting these critical failures and 1 crit failure was enough to throw the whole thing into 12ber. (I'm not using 12bers if I can craft 13's) It's UNBELIEVABLY annoying. I tried using 4pts, 2 pts at a time, 1 pt at a time. All same failure/annoyance rate. I let the first couple of failures go, thinking...ok... this is part of the game. Fine.... But for every two 13ber's I got one 12ber. That's a1/3 failure rate! Heavies don't come cheap.

Now I'm just annoyed to the point where I've given up making them and I've come to this board to complain. Current status: 11 x 13bers and 6x 12bers (I consider them to be useless, I don't care if there's a small market for these. Come on,everyone wants 13bers) I lost 1/3 of all the resources!

I mean what is it?! Is it because I'm rodian? About 2 weeks ago,I made20 on my alt server, Kettemoor with a Mon Cal (not even Master yet! 4/4/4/2). 1 out of 20 was 12 ber. The rest were perfect. I used even crappier Carbonite steel with 90 (91?) %OMU's. Although I think that was lucky.

But tonight was just AWFUL.I mean can +10 Structure Assembly mean that much?? That can't be... I'm Master on Tempest so there's the +10. Is it the Rodian? Am I having a really off night? Aren't Masters supposed to have less critical failures? Didn't the devs reduce the rate??

I can't say what you did wrong. I was crafting all day yesterday, and I encountered only 1 failure. It was 3 crits in a row so I'm happy.
By I use a 44.8 Crafting station, capped out on structure Assembly/Experimentation and we have crafting bonus on our city.

So it must be you. On the other hand. on monday I got an order for 10 4BER personals!!! I got 10 at 4 and 27 that critted and only got 2 or 3..
Never made personals before, so I have no idea what I'm doing wrong on those.

I hit a bad patch the other day aswell making heavy flora.. soon as I went to experiment I got the poor success or a crit fail and ended up with BER 12's.. I made something like 15 heavy's that night by hand in a bonus to crafting city with a 14.87 tool and a 44 station..

It wasn't materials or components because I won't use sub-par items.. was pretty wierd for sure.

WHo knows what creeps in with these hotfixes or wether it's just the bad luck.

If you are making 20 heavies, I would strongly suggest that you turn the first 13 you craft into a schematic and make the rest in your factory. You waste one harvester, but you will end up with more 13s than if you did it by hand. Of course, you will need to make all the sub-compenents in a factory first.

I've had this happen more than once (actually with the same Kammris Iron). That's the reason I've swore off on ever making them again. I seem to have similar trouble with Medium Chemical Harvesters...end up with a ton of 9s instead of 10s. Doesn't happen with the other styles as much.

I just filled an order for 14 BER13 flora and 14 BER13 chems. The Floras were made from a schematic and had no crit fails so went easier than I was prepared for. The chems were all made by hand (had several misc cartes of 2 subs, etc so couldn't schem it). Again I had no crit fails. (Yes I know this is luck/rare).

Being a Master Chef, I am a heavy user of Pyollian Cakes (bonus to assembly) and Bespin Port (bonus to experimentation) - and I bet it helps. Both of them are supposed to decrease the chance of crit fails and I now am a firm believer. I eat one cake before assembly, and then sip the port once before EACH experimentation attempt. My stomach gets full after 8-9 experiments, but ideally this is fine because I want to make a schematic anyway. Once I have the schematic, I am busy setting it up on the factory and my stomach returns to normal shortly thereafter. My crafting station is only +24 right now, the tool is 14.5 and I have a crafter's apron (+5/+5).

So my one advice is to suggest trying out the cakes and port and see if your crit fail rate decreases. And of course, BIO-enhanced versions of the foods would be even better. Anyone else using these foods when crafting?

P.S. I just recently mastered Architect (thought it was a good combine with Master Chef) so imagine how excited I was to fill my first order in this fashion! Woot!

Yep. That sounds typical from what I've seen.

Really pays to make a schematic. If you're making 20 harvesters then this is what you'd get 0-3 BER11-12's made while you try and get a BER13, 1 BER13 used up for the schematic, then 20 perfect BER13's made from your factory.

OK so maybe its not "typical" but its not really unusual to get 1/3 sub max BER's in one batch.

I have had this problem too and now only make harvestors in factory runs. I have had nights where i failed to get max ber on 50% of them and i was in a research center and using besping port. Now since I only do them in factory runs I havent had any problem since I only have to make one, and usually my first one is max ber and then goes downhill from there for some reason.

I guess I'll use a schematic next time, thanks for that advice everyone! I mainly didn't want to use a schem because of the 1:13 ratio (with a 1/3 chance of getting a 12beron the first try). Still, even 2:13loss islooking A LOT better than 1:3.

So...what exactly is critical failure supposed to do for the game anyway? I've readseveral posts about people quitting the game over a critical failure (I remember one from a while ago about an 11-Kryat-tissue gun). It's not fun for anyone. No one gains. It frustrates people. This isn't one of those board games where if someone lands on a bad spot, it's a barrel of laughs.

Clearly the devs have realized criticalfailures are a bad idea.. since Archs no longer losean entire guild hall like before. Anyway... whole other separate issue.

Made 2 more 13's. I'm still a little afraid to try to make the last7 heavies.

Well all I can say is lately I'm getting some good crit failures myself. Actually not only crit but some not to good stats on Heavy Chemical and Flora harvestors (11 and 12s) .Allthe rest I get 10 and 13 and 14 on Fusion.

Needless to say I use a 43% crafting station 99.80 crafting tool and I wear and Architect apron with the bonuses and I'm still having issues.
